Version 2.0 is up! This completely reworks how the mod is constructed. It now alters the grip point for the player ONLY. NPCs will no longer appear to be holding the guns by the magazine. There's also some additional tweaks to reflex sights to make them more useful and accurate, and I removed a bunch of unneeded files to make the mod smaller. I might just be getting the hang of this mod making thing
For a description of how I did this, see my reddit topic here.
ABOUT
This is a VR specific patch for the Assault Carbine and Service Rifle (M4A1 and M16A2) mod by DeadPool2099. The original mod adds weapons that I think are an absolute necessity for Fallout. However, since the original mod was designed for the pancake version it has a couple of issues in VR. The first is that guns don't line up with the controllers, they appear to float about 6 inches in front of the controller. The first thing I did was change all the Nifs so that the pistol grips should now appear to line up with the controller. The other issues was that the reflex sights don't show up terribly well in VR and so they don't really aid in aiming. I went through and tweaked all of the reticles so the should look better now and help provide accuracy in VR.
While I have modified everything, I haven't had chance to test everything. If something doesn't look right or doesn't line up right, the mistake is almost assuredly mine and not DeadPool2099's. Let me know and I'll try to fix it. This is especially true for the reflex sights. There is a little more involved there than just sliding the .nifs back along an axis. What "looks good" and what "works well" there is little more subjective. I'd appreciate some feedback for dialing it into the sweet spot.
INSTALLATION
First get DeadPool2099's original mod here. Make sure that you endorse it. Install it according to his instructions.
Second, Install my files afterwords using either a mod manager or by unzipping into your Fallout 4 VR directory. All I'm providing is modified meshes. You still need the original mod for everything else.
Thanks to DeadPool2099 for the original mod and permission for this patch.
