About this mod

Nate is an ex-US Army veteran and an active member of the US Army Reserves. Nate was issued US Army Reserve Equipment for when the day would come when he would be called up for active duty again. It is stored in a footlocker in the Sole Survivor's bedroom closet. Contains all the essentials a soldier needs to be ready to defend his country.

What this Mod does:

The mod provides an US Army Reserve footlocker that was issued to Sgt. Nathaniel (Nate) Survivor, and is stored in the bedroom closet of the Sole Survivor's house in Sanctuary.

This contains Nate's first-line soldier equipment, US Army issued weapon, ammunition, armor and gear. The contents of the footlocker include:

- US Army Issued Rifle (Choose either: Laser Rifle, Combat Rifle or Hand-Made Rifle*)
- US Army Fatigues (Clean version) "We do not tolerate bad hygiene in this man's army, BOY!"
- US Army Combat Armor Full Set:

* Combat Armor Torso
* Combat Armor Right Arm
* Combat Armor Left Arm
* Combat Armor Right Leg
* Combat Armor Left Leg
* Combat Armor Helmet (working headlamp and added modification slot).

- US Army Issue Gas Mask (Plus resistances & legendary slot. May be worn with the Combat Helmet - Only this version allow you to wear both at once).
- US Army Combat Sunglasses (Plus resistances & legendary slot. May we worn instead of the the Gas Mask - depending on which look you prefer).
- Appropriate Ammunition for the weapon (300 rounds).
- US Army MRE Ration Packs (5 x MRE - Meals Ready To Eat, 5 x MRE Gum Rad Free and 5 x US Army Purified Water).
- US Army First Aid Kit (5 x Med-X, 5 x Stimpaks, 5 x Rad-Away).
- Correct starter crafting materials to craft the corresponding ammunition for Nate's US Army Issued Rifle (30 of each).

AND IMPORTANTLY:
- Now you have the ability to craft ammunition for Nate's US Army Issued Rifle (Use the Chem Workbench - Under the AMMO tab).

The MOD is primarily aimed at new play-troughs for players just exiting Vault 111, and provides lore-friendly and immersive starting gear for the game. After equipping the items, you can use the footlocker to store the valuable loot gathered from exploring the wasteland. Have fun using it :)

* Note: The Hand-Made Rifle version requires the Nuka World DLC.

(Just in case you weren't aware of this: the Hand-Made Rifle is the new AK-47 Rifle added by the Nuka-World DLC. It boasts higher accuracy, damage and lower recoil than any of the other existing combat rifles or assault rifles in the Vanilla Game - which is why I added it as optional file.)

- US Army Gas Mask and Combat Sunglasses now adds damage, energy and radiation resistance, and has a legendary slot.
- The US Army Combat Helmet from the footlocker now has an added mod slot and working headlamp (1st person).
- You are now able to craft ammunition for Nate's US Army Issued rifle (.45 rounds, 7.62 rounds and Fusion cells) - depending on which version you use.
- Adds enough corresponding crafting materials to the footlocker, to enable you to craft your first batches of ammo (30 of each type of component).


Immersion Story Background


Fallout 4 canon informs us, that Nate is a retired soldier who served in the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army during the Sino-American War.

From the intro-video sequence in the game we can see that Nate experienced combat during his time in the Army, most probably during the Battle of Anchorage, and/or the Yangtze Campaign. This happened prior to the Great War, and we experience the beginning of the Great War, first-hand, when the first bombs fall during the beginning of the game.

Now about Nate: Nora makes a statement to Nate that "You are going to knock them dead at the Veteran's Hall this evening, honey". This doesn't just refer to his looks alone, but alludes to him making a speech.

Now based on that we know, we can safely assume that Nate was most probably a person of influence in his Army Unit, because people don't just invite any grunt to come and give speeches. This means Nate was either a very successful Non-Commissioned Officer, or an Officer in his unit. The video footage of Nate in his army gear, during the game's intro-sequence, would suggest the former.

It is therefore most probable that Nate was a Non-Com, and based on his age, profile, years service in the Army, proficiency in weapons, survival skills, combat skills, etc., it is most probable to postulate that his rank was most probably that of a Sergeant.

With a larger conflict against China looming on the horizon, the US Army was not just going to let such experienced and influential Non-Commissioned Officers of Nate's caliber go, without some form of contingency planning.

It is therefore very probable to conclude that an honorably discharged soldier, such as Nate, would most be retained by the US Army Reserves. If you explore the house during the game's opening sequence (when Nate, Nora, Codsworth and Shaun are in the house) and you open the main bedroom closet, you can see his Army Fatigues neatly folded on the shelf, which supports this theory.

And a US Army Reserve soldier is issued with appropriate US Army gear, so that he is ready for any situation, when that call-up comes.


Mod Author's Rationale

Based on the above information about Nate's background and history, it is reasonable to presume that Nate could be a member of the US Army Reserves. And that implies he was accordingly issued with appropriate US Army equipment. The most logical place to store his US Army-issued footlocker, would be in his bedroom closet.

What weapons/gear are included?
Only US Army Reserve gear - basically what we see him wearing in the game's intro sequence - Rifle, Army Fatigues, Combat Armor, Ammo and First Aid Kit. You can choose whether the weapon is a Laser Rifle, Combat Rifle or Hand-Made Rifle (Nuka World DLC) based on which 1 of the 3 mods you install.
 
What about Raiders or Looters? This stash should have been raided long ago?

Trusty Codsworth has been outside the door guarding the footlocker these past 210 years.

How do I access it, if I am playing as Nate?
Go to your house, open your footlocker, gear up and "Make those Bastards Pay!"

What about, if I am playing as Nora?
Nate would want you to use it. Go to your house, open his footlocker, gear up and "Get your son back!"

I wanted to keep this mod Balanced, and Lore-friendly, so please don't ask me to add a Fatman and 300 mini-nukes - because it ain't going to happen.


Compatibility:

This standalone mod just adds a new item to the world-map and the coordinates of your Sanctuary House's bedroom closet. So the footlocker should spawn there even if you have scrapped the house :) This mod should be compatible with just about any other mod out there.

The variants of the combat armor (light-, sturdy-, and heavy) that will spawn in the footlocker will depend on your what level you are, when you first activate the mod, but the footlocker will spawn there after you activate the mod, whether you just emerged from Vault 111 or if you are an all-conquering level 100 plus and is returning triumphantly to Sanctuary after saving the wasteland, or from blowing it to hell :)

Installation:

Extract the contents of the zip file to your C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Fallout 4\Data\ folder. Launch the game with a mod manager such as the NMM.

Make a clean save away from sanctuary before activating this mod, else it could spawn without all the items included the footlocker. The interior location of the bunker, two houses removed from the player's house in Sanctuary , would be a perfect location for the clean save.

IMPORTANT: Only activate a single version of this mod - choose the version you want (Laser Rifle, Combat Rifle or Hand-Made Rifle). Download and use the version you want - but do not activate more than 1 version of this mod at a time.
