Have separate mods for protected and (mortal?) versions, the protected flag will make sure they don't die unless you personally execute them.
For that extra mile: killing Sturges should auto-complete the town setup quest the same way you can control a settlement by killing the settlers instead of doing their quest.
There is also a mod that lets her and.. Jung lueo or whatever his name is, shut the hell up. Mod is called: shut up. Or something. Or: mute Marcy long.
I would actually love a mod that makes all settlers (generic ones) essential, since they die from stupid things often for me, like running off to fight some enemy far away from settlement without my knowledge, or just falling (lol), i think they also can die from missile turrets and definitely die from random damage done by player (can't use any explosive damage or artillery).
The AI is incredibly dumb like that! I literally cannot travel with a companion because they'll pull agro everywhere and run off and solo deathclaws with their fists for no reason or fall off s#*! and die. Even the dog is ridiculous, it may as well just be spamming the /train emote while pulling agro from one side of the map to the other then galloping back to you like human, human look what I brought you, eighteen deathclaws and two hundred scorpions! It's easier travelling alone when you have such shonky AI. Bethesda really, really outdid themselves at lackluster half assed broken toys this time.
There is a mod fot that called: mortal settlers. But right now i'm looking for a other one cause it stopped working... -.-Its conflicting with other mods but i can't find wich one.
Can you make a version that you can also kill Preston right after the quest Defend the castle? Prick didn't want to be leader of the minuteman, makes the player leader, and then he gives the player orders like a boss. >> lol.
both the longs can do stuff so they are not useles preston is town gard mama can also be told what to do surges is the only one that cant do jack crap he is needed for some quests tho at some point the longs stop talking so much also but hey you might want to shunt marsy up sooner rather than lator.
Actually she overdoses sooner or later when giving you the last vision, and guess what happens? The settlers get even more fucking annoying, Marcy will keep saying 'HOW COULD YOU AND PRESTON LET MAMA DIE LIKE THAT' and her pansy ass husband will cry each time you go past him
