Not this one. Once you change their status once then save, the changes will persist. You will have to use the command again on a brand new game but again only once.
It sounds like you have some other issue with the game. By default all those npcs are protected. I literally just checked it out with only fallout 4 esm loaded. Perhaps you have a mod that alters how damage is attributed to the player?
But still a useful mod for those that want essential traders opposed to protected.
I think this is simple confusion, rather than some bugs due to mods or something. These npc are NOT essential, but they are protected. Meaning they can be killed by player, but other NPC will not target them after downed state. So if OP tested it by killing protected NPC's himself before creating the mod - yeah..
I have actually found Cricket dead several times in both modded and un-modded games. For example, one time I fast-travelled into Warwick and discovered her body laying next to the firepit. I certainly didn't kill her! And if you do a quick google of it you'll see plenty of other folks who have also discovered her body at various locations. So clearly her protected status is either glitched or there's some scripted death involved (like the way Bill Sutton drowns himself or Old Man Stockton apparently ends up being murdered and left naked in the street
Eh? All of them are essential for me. (I mean, I can kill them but other NPC's can't.) I remember during the battle of bunker hill Trashcan Carla picked up a minigun off a dead Brotherhood dude and proceeded to kill everyone that was apart of the battle, they downed her but she kept getting back up. Eventually... Trashcan Carla was the sole survivor of the battle of bunker hill. (It was hilarious.)
Seeing as **SPOILERS** Bunker Hill is a secret Railroad base, I think they're double agents who are actually working for the RR. Besides, I only used this on my MM playthrough and I just killed them on my Institute one.
