The Vault 111 Exit Detector is a Papyrus script utility for modders to monitor the player's progress and start a quest of their choosing after the player has left Vault 111 for the first time.

The Vault 111 Exit Detector is a Papyrus script utility for modders to monitor the player's progress and start a quest of their choosing after the player has left Vault 111 for the first time. I ended up needing this functionality several times and I finally got sick of writing it over and over. All sorts of mods could benefit from this functionality because hooking a quest starting is very easily done and can be used to kick off virtually any process.

While not impressive or difficult to implement, this is a time saving utility for modders since it never has to be bothered with again. Package the included .pex file with your add-on and you're good to go.  Note that the provided .pex file was compiled in debug mode and you'll likely want to recompile prior to packaging it in your release.

Using this script requires two things:
  • Have a quest you wish to run only after the player has left Vault 111 for the first time (or come up with one when you realize how utterly amazing this script is such that you can't resist using it.)
  • A dummy quest to attach the Vault111ExitDetector script to so that its properties can be populated.

Setting up the dummy quest:
  • Tick the “Start Game Enabled” and “Run Once” boxes.
  • Attach the Vault111ExitDetector script to this quest and set the property values. The “Out of Time” quest will auto-fill but you will need to specify your quest manually.
  • It's best not to add anything else to this dummy quest unless you are sure of why you're adding it since it is intended to operate in the background, detect the event it needs to detect, act on it, and shut down (or just act and shut down if that event has already passed.)

Don't be afraid to convert an existing mod to use this script since if your quest is already started, the Vault 111 Exit Detector will have no tangible effect and will quietly go away in that particular save.
