Detailed, lore friendly overhaul of the vanilla Gauss Rifle to resemble a prototype made by Watzz Electronics including custom glowmaps, lighting and hi-res textures.

tldr:


This mod is mainly a replacer of existing game files: no plugin required. It can be installed manually by extracting the archive in your FO4 install directory. It should be compatible with all mods except those addressing the same files.

This mod does NOT make the Gauss Rifle more powerful than it already is :)

The workers of the research department of Watzz Electronics stared at each other in disbelief behind the stained glass of the supervising booth. The gun was still intact. Smoke billowed from its nozzle and cracks had appeared on the magnets but she was whole! This couldn't be said of the burning pile of rubble which had previously formed the target installation with heavy duty containment shielding and bullet trap.

Ever since the threat of war had become real, they had worked non-stop on their pet project. A highly destructive energy weapon for military purposes. And according to their director: "to give those guys out in the field a serious long range, anti-material punch!".

It was not based on existing tech like the Gattling Laser already in service, ("They just slapped three AER9's together! You can't call that innovation!"), but a rail weapon, using electricity to hurl small bits of matter with incredible, supersonic velocities. This required installing an array of powerful electric magnets in a portable package, state of the art batteries and a whole lot of - not quite finished - clever solutions for energy containment and heat dissipation.

After recovering from the small apocalypse that had just occurred in front of their eyes, they slowly regained their composure.

"Wow ... did you see that?!" Their director Bruce Smith blurted out rhetorically.
Van Beek only muttered quietly in his native language, "Alle Jezus, da's een beste klap ..."
"Dear god, what have we created?" John Dickinson slowly pulled his hands down his face and sighed.
"Don't be sentimental about it, Dickinson. I want the first batch shipped to Boston for testing in two weeks time!".

Description:


This is my attempt at a lore-friendly overhaul of the Gauss Rifle. Mainly a retexturing job but also with tweaked material files, custom
light nodes and extra glow maps. Though the latter are hard to spot during daytime, at night they give the weapon a subtle, more electric
presence.

The mod is currently in beta state and some of the textures could still do with some tweaking, they are pretty hi-res too (some are 4k), so please keep me posted on your mileage.

Installing:

Simply extract the archive in your Fallout 4 install directory and overwrite all when asked.

Uninstalling:

Delete the folders called "Gauss Rifle" in the "Weapons" folders within the Meshes, Materials and Textures folders found in your Data folder.
