(with thanks to DimwitTheWisefor the following information/testing)
For those looking to download all available Good old Cartoons, I downloaded and tested both the original and Resurrection to see what works and what doesn't, specifically on TV and Projector (no film reel testing). The below info is valid as of 2024-03-11 with the versions listed, which are the latest available at the time of testing.
ONLY get the 2 downloads referenced above. DO NOT get II or Bonus as both have many issues which are corrected by Resurrection. Installing II and Bonus will mess up your save, so don't download them! Only download I and III. Note that I only tested the .ESL versions of I and III.
"Good old Cartoons Resurrection" https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/69433?tab=files 95year STM-W deluxe v2.6 (a well done Steamboat Willie remaster) Good old Cartoons Resurrection Bonus v2.6.1 Good old Cartoons Resurrection Special v2.6 Good old Cartoons Resurrection Volume II v2.6
All 4 Resurrection downloads are good. There are 2 things to note about the above versions of Resurrection, but they are minor. - "Fallout 2" apparently only works on TV, not projectors - "Tortoise Wins By A Hare" is correct, but its holotape is spelled "Turtoise"
)
So the combination of I and III from the original and all 4 from Resurrection should give you all the videos available originally. Enjoy!!
Good Old Cartoons is officially unsupported, and all users downloading/installing it do so at their own risk.
I'm having a problem with the videos from this mod, and its only from this mod doing it. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1288542500301502575/BFAD44ABF233C591C79D3DC4812E92BC4FAD2E2B/ this can describe it better than I ever could.
Does this occur only with that specific one holotape from GOC, or is it happening with any GOC holotapes? Also, does it occur when you use any other TV models from VotW?
An A-I-O will break the mod. Merging this (or other VotW related) content will result in making it incompatible with VotW, and will royally screw-up the FormID's.
maybe a better way would be to offer mirror downloads like google drive or some other external nexus so that people can dl faster? maybe thats what this user is asking?
Those aren't 'missing' as those are completely separate creations that have different rules and requirements, and it's something the author didn't choose to take the time to do.As someone who has made two videos for VotW, one for regular and one for the Starlight Drive-In, I for one can tell you it's quite a bit of difference and a lot of work... and I only did two not the number he has lol.
made two .. zero in profile to download .. :( I am just a person looking to watch Tom & Jerry cartoons on the big screen at starlight using the reel tapes.
These would have to be redone from scratch (audio/video and .nifs would have to be reworked to accomodate the Drive-In function of VotW) due to the inherent differences between content for the player/mini-projector, and the Drive-In. The Drive-In film reels can only contain a maximum of around 3.5 minutes of content, whereas the RQ player/RS mini-projector can play content up to a maximum of 10 minutes (they can play for longer, but once over the limitation we've imposed, audio playback becomes impaired and starts playing out of sync due to game-engine related limitations. Going further over the hard limit we imposed will only increase the amount of desync) Bearing in mind how much content is in Good Old Cartoons, I don't see anyone willing to put in the time/effort required to basically split up every single holotape into three film-reels. It quickly adds up to a ridiculous amount of work when you do the math.
I can not get this mod to play the correct video for each holotape. I installed VOTW with it's addons and loaded my save. I saved my game and quit. I then installed Volume 1 and loaded my game. I saved and quit. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes the last video on the very first volume I install doesn't play right. By the time I get to Volume 3, the textures are missing and it's playing videos from previous volumes. I've also tried deleting and redownloading the volumes to no avail.
Edit: I'll try the ESL versions and see if something different happens...
Okay...I just discovered videos of the wasteland and I have to say this is REALLY fucking cool. I grew up watching looney tunes so this mod just made me smile knowing that it exists! SO downloading this!
Since it looks like there was an attempt at ESLs that didn't work out, any hope of a single ESP with all volumes (an All In One Option)? I'm guessing one could load all the volumes and bonus into FO4Edit and copy all the records into Volume 1 (since that's the only one that has a BA2 that needs to be pulled in by a matching ESP).
It's a bit more complicated than just adding additional entries into the .esp file. To the best of my knowledge, the only way to do it would be to edit the .nif files directly to contain more records (as well as having to re-edit the audio files) for all the holotape content you'd want to add to a single .nif. The problem is that this complicates the .nif structure exponentially the more you add to it, and paves the way for more mistakes to be made, whilst also making it more frustrating & harder to narrow down where the mistake was made in the first place; bear in mind a single wrong entry can cause the mod to not work. This is the main reason why we limit the holotape playback to around the 10 minute mark; not to mention that audio files for holotapes have a tendency to go out-of-sync with the video aspect of VotW when you get close to the maximum length we allow, due to limitations of the Creation Engine. It is do-able, but the amount of work involved makes it something I wouldn't attempt or recommend. Having the .esl versions work would get around the hard mod limit, and that was the intention when Dertspovor06 created those versions. Unfortunately for VotW (whether its the way that the .esl format itself works, the way that the game loads .esl's into memory, or the way that Vortex/MO do things) they've proven to be a bit unreliable for correctly loading the holotape mods without some users experiencing issues when using VotW. We still have those versions available, but can't guarantee that they'll work without a hitch.
Thank you for the info, interesting stuff to read about! My limited understanding of ESLs is that some mod managers incorrectly order those, while ESL-flagged ESPs are correctly ordered. So the solution for those players might have been ESL-flagged ESPs rather than "pure" ESLs. I'm using MO2 which handles both correctly so it wouldn't mean much for me to try that out (I am using the SPECIAL videos in ESL format without issue). Of course, there's more to it: Plugin Files and You, as there always is.
For me at least, most important is that I hadn't realized the ESLs were still available (maybe a typo on the download page as they are labelled ESMs) and I'll give those a try, thanks (in my Conqueror-Raider playthrough, the atmosphere of a bunch of drugged out, blood soaked raiders relaxing at night by cheering on Bugs Bunny on a projector screen is priceless)!
I'll readily admit I'm not that well-versed about .esl's (and even less with .esl-flagged .esp's as I've never had a need to use them) though my understanding of how they work is that the game loads them up (in a somewhat random order) before it loads any .esp files. Unsure if they load at the same time as .esm's though This may have contributed to some users of VotW experiencing issues with the form lists for numerous holotape mods getting mixed up, and playing the incorrect content. Thanks for letting me know about that typo on the download page, I'll fix it pronto.
Ey mate im missing an esm do you know what its called cause all i have in the missing masters section is "votWmaster.esm" im a totally brainlit when it comes to these things
The .esp versions were put in the 'old files' section. I'm in the process of switching them around, as it appears that the .esm version are causing issues.
For some reason it doesn't work correctly for me. Video names and whats on them doesnt match. Some doesnt work. I did the correct installation, no conflicts in FO4EDIT. Activated them 1 by 1 as instructed on the VOTW site. Im wondering if its because its an .esl version because I dont remember to have had this problem on the old version.
It's possible that the form lists are getting jumbled up due to using the .esl versions that have been uploaded (not by me) If you're using the MCM version of VotW, you can use the option from VotW that will attempt to correct the form lists. I've always been wary of them and recommend users don't use the .esl versions that have been uploaded, & stick to the .esp's. Most users don't seem to have any idea that .esl files are all loaded into memory in a random fashion at the same time as .esm files. For a mod like VotW that is the master file for all the holotape mods that are available, VotW has to load before the mods that are dependant on it. Saying that though, there have been a lot of user reports regarding Good Old Cartoons, complaining that it doesn't work etc - it's practically the only holotape mod for VotW that consistently get's mentioned as being buggy.
Ok. Thanks for the reply. I did try the MCM option to correct form lists but it didn't work. I have now found out that Cartoons 1+2 works if I don't activate more than those. But once I activate the third one it buggs out. So ill just use 1+2 for now.
Will it be possible to deactive the .esl mods and try the .esp version instead without uninstalling the whole VOTW and not ruin my save?
EDIT: OK. So I did exactly that. Removed the new .Esl version and installed the old .ESP version and now everything works fine. I didn't even activate them one by one this time. Will this break my save later on?
Regarding your savefile, I don't believe so (broken savefiles/savebloat are usually caused by constantly installing/uninstalling a lot of mods) but as with all mods, I can't 100% guarantee it.
