About this mod

Switches that snap to the Vault-Tec vault pieces. Intended as a resource to get other modders started.

Permissions and credits
Conduits and the Vault-Tec Workshop pieces transmit power through essentially the same method; via snaps. There's really no magic to it. It all works off of code that I thiiiiiiiiiink was added sometime before Contraptions Workshop came along, but really who can say. The point is this: it's an engine function now. There's no reason for the rest of us not to be using it.

To that end, I release this, the second mod I've made that incorporates the functionality in the hopes that other modders will reverse engineer what I've done and start adding the feature to their stuff as well. Plus, in the meantime, it's a useful thing for the rest of us.

What this is, is a fairly simple replacement for the vanilla switch with one that has the 'snaps transmit power' function enabled and uses the Vault-Tec Conduit snap point added in the Vault-Tec Workshop. In all other respects - radius, ability to hook wires to things, etc - it remains vanilla in functionality.

What this means, to clarify the images: the switch is getting power from the wall, which, as is standard for vault-tec pieces, is powered by some reactor way the heck off in a different room. Then it (the switch) powers the lights. So you can turn them on or off.

This is surprisingly easy to set up in TES5Edit once you know what you're doing and can copy from somewhere that's made it work. Anything that snaps to anything else (via a snap point) can be made to carry power. To get it in or out, you just need snaps for junctions or wire connectors or whatever. It's ideal for settlement walls, or for some kind of foundation that runs under everything, but if build sets used it we could at least cut down on the number of wires or conduits needed to run power around them.

I've included two versions.

The first, if you have Vault-Tec Workshop, also adds a second switch that uses the white paint job from the Vault 88 radio beacon. Simple material swap. This'll let you have rooms in your vaults where you can shut off the lights or whatever else. You know. Options.

The second, if you don't have the DLC, but do have a mod that adds the snap point to something else, like, say, for instance, my Covenant build set. The switch will work with several of the walls in that and allow for a more advanced power/defense solution for your settlements. This only replaces the vanilla switch, but as mentioned above you will need at least one mod to actually do anything with it. As I become aware of others that have the Vault-Tec snap and would work, I'll list them.

Settlement Objects Expansion Pack also offers this functionality now.

The mesh is a modified vanilla resource so please feel free to incorporate it into whatever other mod you wish. I'm hoping that more build sets using this functionality will get made over time and we can stop having all those poles everywhere (unless we want them).
