Has anyone made a mod that patches the damage vanilla bug during the Christmas and Halloween 'events' so NPC's don't die and maybe make it compatible with this mod? I wanna get this mod but honestly hearing of this vanilla bug and the length days making the bug more common honestly worries me to get it
Its not the mod, its a vanilla issue regarding NPCs taking damage during holidays for some reason that I gather no one can figure out yet and thus has no fix. Its more noticeable with this mod because it extends said holidays, so the damage taken lasts longer and can result in deaths. But it happens regardless in vanilla on Halloween and Christmas if you're around on those days. Its just not as noticeable.
Either way its annoying as all hell because I consider this an essential mod for immersion purposes; the decorations only lasting one day was a dumb decision. But who knows, maybe that decision was actually tied to this stupid bug.
Yes is really is a vanilla bug and has happened me several times in past even without this mod but yeah this most likely will increase the likehood of it happening for obvious reasons which is a shame since it's really nice to see the place decorated.
Now it's not a bug which happens to everyone and everytime so if you don't have the bug never happened to you, consider yourself as one of the lucky one's.
If anyone wants to try and find the source, the RefID of the thing that calls the script this mod replaces, is 0004408D.
Personally, I suspect one of the references enabled as a result of this script is also an enable parent to some outdoor city-wide hazard that only applies to the NPCs of Diamond City that was put in during testing, then forgotten about. I can only think of 3 solutions: find the dang hazard reference that harms the npcs, remove the enable parent part from the reference, and disable it so it can't harm the NPCs at all; add a non-playable unique item to the outfits of all the NPCs of Diamond City with a healing effect that counters the damage (makes em slightly harder to kill when the damage isn't present); 3rd is add something like The Ring of Low Maintenance to the outfits of all the NPCs of Diamond City, which makes em very hard to kill.
With this mod\script installed, my character kept dying every 15 min. (This was installed way after game start so maybe a new start might work better, but, I never made it Diamond City yet to check further as to what happens there.) Removed mod, all ok with my character. Simple script, can not figure why it effects my character stats.
All NPCs in Diamond City are taking random damage and now they've begun to die.
It is possible that this mod is causing this bug? I mean not the mod itself but the events and this mod cause extends the bug duration? I tried disable all my mods but still happening. The bug stop when save and reload but re-starts when I enter in a house of the city.
Maybe a game breaker bug? I'm not laying the blame to the mod. I'm just investigating.
I don't see how. There is a vanilla script in the game that triggers the holiday decorations. The trigger literally just flips a visible flag on existing placed objects in Diamond City. So the objects (decorations) always exist in the engine, they are just shown/hidden depending on the date. The only thing this mod does is modify the criteria for that date range so that it is longer than the exact day of the holiday.
I've been in Diamond City multiple times between Dec 1 - Dec 31 and seen the Christmas decorations the entire time and not experienced any abnormal behavior from any of the NPCs. Whatever happened to your game is coming from something else.
It's a bug with the vanilla game. If you enter an exit a house during holidays (Home plate, Valentines agency etc.), NPCs start taking damage and will even die. Vanilla holidays are too short so this isn't really a big issue there with this mod it can be.
Getting this now too... Trying to figure out which mod is causing this... No other report of this on any other Diamond City mod I have downloaded though.
So...... is this still an issue? I can see if this is a vanilla bug that maybe the Unofficial patch would tackle this sort of issue but I am barely getting back into a playthrough of Fallout 4 with a new mod loadout so any new info on the issue would be appreciated.
This has deep potential. Holidays in general for the Fallout World can get fun. Goodneighbor may not be particularly extensive for Halloween and Christmas but I can see minor pranks getting played there April 1st. The day before the Halloween stuff goes up in Diamond City, thinking black bunting and a moment of silence there (and in the Institute) as the Memorial Day observance of the War. Other days of note; Founding Day for the major settlements and the classic religious holidays.
It's an excuse for more monotony-breaking scenery change, gameplay elements and a bit of lore, like Holidays for Skyrim.
More than just Diamond City changing for seasons would be amazing, the mod 'American Dream Radio' has a version on BethNet that changes the songs with the seasons.
and https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/32652 Seasons and holiday reminder has it pop-up as a notification so you dont miss it.
Guards wearing Santa hats, xmas/bats/pumpkin/shi armour for Xmas/Halloween/New Year. Workshop items you flag as decor for a certain season could then be invisible without collision outside of workshop mode, except during that season.
correct me if i'm wrong but I think these three mods together are as good as it gets at the moment. I wish other towns like Goodneighbour, The Institute, Nuka-Town, Far Harbor (dock) did the DC decor thing.

I've never seen NPCs taking damage in the way you've described before, and I've used this mod for thousands of hours.
Not that I don't believe you. Man alive, Bethesda... absolute mad lads.
