About this mod

If you have the Fallout 3 OST you can use this mod to add the ambient music from Fallout 3 to the Commonwealth.

I loved the music for Fallout 3. The soundtrack was always able to leave me feeling helpless and alone in a hostile wasteland. As much as I love Fallout 4, the music has never got to me the way Fallout 3's did. This mod aims to fix that.

What this mod does

This mod ADDS (not replaces, adds!) the soundtrack from Fallout 3 to Fallout 4. Now you can have the haunting Wandering the Wastes playing as you explore the Commonwealth. The advantage of this mod is it adds more variety to the music you'll hear when you turn the radio off.

The areas I've added FO3 music to are:
  • Exploring
  • Exploring coast
  • Exploring urban
  • Exploring foothills (Sanctuary area)
  • Exploring glowing sea
  • Dungeons
  • Combat
  • Public (Diamond City, Goodneighbour, places like that)
  • Institute
  • Brotherhood
  • Railroad
  • Minutemen

This mod is still in beta, so I'm quite keen to get feedback. Have I chosen the right places for the music to play? Are there any other places the music should play? Are any tracks playing too frequently, or not frequently enough? Let me know.

The catch

Unfortunately, for obvious reasons, I cannot distribute the Fallout 3 OST, so this mod contains no music. You'll need to make sure you own a copy of the Fallout 3 OST or a PC copy of Fallout 3. This mod contains an esp that will recognise the music files from Fallout 3.

What you need to do

You need to make sure you have a copy of the Fallout 3 OST or the music files from Fallout 3. They can be found in the folders Base, Battle, Dungeon, Explore, Public and Special (for the MainTitle file), in the folder \Fallout 3 goty\Data\Music.

You'll need to make sure the music files are converted to .wav files (there are countless ways to do this, I recommend you google it), and you'll need to make sure they are named properly (so that the mod can read them). You'll need to manually add the music files to the folder this mod adds, Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Music\FO3.

I've included a picture of what the filestructure should look like, and how the files should be named. It is EXTREMELY important that you have the files named according to the picture, otherwise the mod won't be able to find them and you may get crashes. If you have used the files from Fallout 3 they should already have the correct names. If you used the files from the OST, you will need to manually change their names. They are as follows (special thanks to Tallon314 for the list):

Base Folder:
Base_01 -> New World, NewOrder
Base_02 -> Lockstep
Base_03 -> Price of Honor
Base_04 -> Fortress
Battle Folder:
Battle_01 -> Unwelcome Guest
Battle_02 -> Ambush
Battle_03 -> Never Surrender
Battle_04 -> Metal on Metal
Battle_05 -> Behemoth
Battle_06 -> Think Fast, Shoot Faster
Battle_07 -> Chance to Hit
Dungeon Folder:
Dungeon_01 -> Forgotten
Dungeon_02 -> Clues in the Darkness
Dungeon_03 -> No Way out but Through
Dungeon_04 -> Out of Service
Dungeon_05 -> The Ferals
Explore Folder:
Explore_01 -> Gotta StartSomewhere
Explore_02 -> Old Lands, New Frontiers
Explore_03 -> Pieces of the Past
Explore_04 -> City of Ruin
Explore_05 -> Wandering the Wastes
Explore_06 -> Ashes and Sand
Explore_07 -> What Remains
Public Folder:
Public_01 -> Place of Refuge
Public_02 -> The Smallest Hope
Public_03 -> The Caravans
Public_04 -> Megaton
Public_05 -> A Stranger in Town
Special Folder:
MainTitle -> Main Title

Songs that jingle jangle jingle

I've had quite a few requests for a New Vegas version as well. I'm not as familiar with the New Vegas OST, and I don't have New Vegas installed on my computer to access the files at the moment, so it will take a bit of time for me to get working on it.

Survivorborn

I do however have the Skyrim soundtrack on hand. Though the music isn't as thematically appropriate for Fallout 4, I'm going to scour through it and play around with it and see if the Skyrim OST has some songs that would lend themselves well to the Commonwealth.
