There's always FO4Edit and Wikipedia to convert the IRL RPM to Fallout 4's RPS

I honestly love this weapon, but I just have one question: was this weapon intended to be a pre-war design, or a post-war recreation of pre-war designs? Like some settler finding a book about WW weapons and trying to build them or something?

The gun looks like either the Sten or the german MP 18. My personal headcannon is that the government mass produced these kinds of early submachine guns, which are presumably cheaper than modern firearms, for emergency use to arm the entire civilian populace as a last ditch effort in case of a successful chinese invasion. Major cities like boston would then have had enormous stockpiles of these "defense guns" waiting to be distributed if the war went badly. After the bombs, survivors looking for supplies would have broken into the military stores holding all these ready made guns and passed them around the commonwealth to the point of saturation.

Pretty neat, but my idea was that some post-war settler, maybe an ex-minuteman, decided to build a gun designed around giving settlers greater firepower than a pipe gun while still being able to be produced using crude material and sold cheap. The design of the gun would be based around what that settler saw in old books and decided that would work well for the idea.

There are stocks that do nothing. The gun will still have pistol animations.

I believe that was intended. For a reason with these stocks weapon is named "Machine Pistol".

Machine Pistol just another term for Submachine Gun, SMG/Submachine Gun is a term mostly used in North America while in Europe they say Machine Pistol instead.

Sub-machine guns are called sub-machine guns in Europe. A machine Pistol is just that, a fully automatic handgun. Big difference.

(This sounds condescending, I promise it's not meant to be lol. And yes, I know HK still uses the "MP" name, but most people in Europe still refer to these things as SMGs.)

There is literally no difference between submachinegun and machinepistol, its a american term (because Thompson felt it sounded meaner). Many nations still call it a machinepistol, France, Norway, Germany, Denmark,Finland etc. The american defense of the difference is faulty, as the first machinepistols were not handguns, just used pistolammo. MP18 is pretty different from a appearing as a handgun.
      So no, no difference,

Tambarskjelve is correct, but so far everyone here has been in different ways. Nobody has mentioned why yet though: Machine pistols fire pistol cartridges, despite how the firearm looks. Cartridge-based name.

They are called submachine guns also, because they're a smaller, lighter version of a 'real' machine gun, with a stock, rather than just because of the cartridge. Shape-based name. A machine pistol to some (many?) would have to look like a pistol, with no stock, or perhaps a folding stock on a pistol shape, despite the cartridge used.

Pistol cartridges cut down on weight, and work well since they are designed as short-range weapons versus the sometimes very long range of a 'full' machine gun. More bullets, less weight, perfect for their designed use of clearing trenches or other short-range concentrations of 'targets'.

I'd like to know where the "sounds meaner" source is for the Thompson submachine gun, though. I've never heard that, but I like learning. Tambarskjelve?

There are pistols that fire rifle cartridges, such as the Belgian-made FN Five-seven. Almost all that pistols firing rifle cartridges I've seen are longer-range single-shot target pistols. The cartridge doesn't make it a rifle, though. So, which nomenclature is technically correct? I prefer shape-based myself, but that's just preference.

I've seen debates like this several times, and it'd be interesting to see the thoughts of a credentialed gun expert. I'm pretty sure there's at least a few playing a game like Fallout 4!

My sources? Wikipedia, 'old' age. You don't get to be 50 without learning a few things along the way, even if some of them are wrong!

I have a small bug where some of the raiders won't spawn with ammo so they can't use the gun, it feels like something was left out of the script.

I have this same issue, it seems like it's been known for a long time. I'd really appreciate it if someone released a patch for it to fix the leveled list issue.

      Uploaded a patch, here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/37555/

Needs testing, though. If you could try it, and it works, please let me know.

Does this weapon use a script to add itself to the leveledlist or can I safely uninstall it? I have no issue with it as far as enemies using it goes since its overpowered nature adds to the challenge, but it gives me the same issue as the ACR-W17. Way too common.
