This mod adds a wearable beanie to the game with 5 different hair options in all 22 colours.
2.0 now includes 6 additional beanie colours (7 in total).
Craftable at either the Chemistry Workbench or the Armorsmith Workbench depending on your set up.

UPDATE 08 June 2016 - The mod no-one wanted or cares about has been overhauled. I've reduced the number of beanies from 110 to just 5 (one for each hair style) and they can now be crafted and then modded at the Armor Workbench to choose your hair colour and beanie colour. 6 new and [not very] exciting colours to choose from!

Notes:

The Beanie Basement is no more in 2.0 (RIP Beanie Basement) and as I've done away with 90% of the records from the original mod, upgrading to 2.0 means you will lose your beanies from 1.0. Don't despair however! If you are desperate to hold on to the ones you crafted from before (because you used all your ballistic fibre to weave the hell out of them and you're too angelic to console your way to more mats), you can run BOTH 1.0 and 2.0 together and they will not conflict. Obviously the old beanies will be stuck with just the grey colour and there are no additional mods available but whatever, it's up to you if you want to keep the old mod.

I'm still unable to deal with the following issue:

The two shaved styles (Asphalt and Anchorage) require you to already have a shaved-at-the-sides hairstyle (e.g. Asphalt Jungle or Urban Ranger). Whatever you have will be displayed under the beanie. If you have a long hairstyle, the beanie won't hide the bottom of it and it will look crap. The other three styles will hide your hair completely so it doesn't matter what hair you have. It's not perfect however. The very top of the shaved part is missing (see images). If this bothers you, avoid those styles. I think it looks fine with the Anchorage and Asphalt jungle hairlines but maybe not so much with the Urban Ranger style hairline.

I did the above for the following reason: There is an issue with making the meshes fit any head and adding the side parts looked crap which brings me onto my next point...

These beanie/hair combos will fit most but not any head. The way the game works is that hats come with two meshes, the normal mesh and the facebones mesh. The facebones mesh tells the game how to warp the original mesh depending on the shape of your head. I have included facebones meshes for all the styles but it isn't working properly. There is some adjustment but if you have a massive forehead the hair will clip at the hairline. I tested the beanies with all the presets and it only clips on two of them. I almost didn't upload this mod because of this issue because I can't figure out how to solve it but I decided to share it anyway. I originally made the beanies as hair you can select in CC and the facebones work perfectly there so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. If you know how to fix it, please let me know. In the mean time, you may have to adjust your character's forehead to wear the beanies. Sorry about that.

Q&A

Q. What version do I download?
A.
  • If you want no mod dependencies, download the vanilla version. You will craft the beanies at the chem station under Utility.
  • If you just want to craft them at the Armorsmith Workbench and not worry about lining mods and add-on mods and you have AWKCR then download that version.
  • If you have Armorsmith Extended and want all the "Bells and Whistles" (including Legendary Mods), then download the AE version.
  • Even if you have AE, you don't have to download the AE version if you think all those mods are a bit much for a beanie or you just wanna craft it without requirements. You can use one of the "lesser" versions if you want but you must have the required mods to use the AWKCR and AE versions.

Q. Crafting cost?
A. 3 Cloth (Vanilla) + Armorer 1 (AWKCR and AE)

Q. What are the stats?
A. 5 each of physical, energy and radiation resistance and +1 Perception and Charisma.

Q. Can I add Ballistic Weave?
A. Yes (All versions)

Q. Is this compatible with Legendary Modification?
A. The AE version is. The others are not. I'm doubt I'll make a Legendary Mod only version.

Q. Can you do a female version?
A. No. The vanilla female hair is foul and Commonwealth Cuts already have you covered when it comes to beanies+hair for women. Also I don't need the snide bullshit feedback I get with female mods.

Q. Can I use your assets to...?
A. The beanie mesh/textures is not mine. It belongs to the Skyrim KSHairdos team (thanks Kalilies!) If you get their permission, you can use my FO4 version and any of the vanilla meshes that I have altered. You don't need to ask or credit me. If you want to completely retexture the beanie and release it as additonal options then that's fine. If you need help making material swaps and mods, let me know and I'll lend you a hand.

Q. Can you do a version with X hairstyle/do a different colour beanie?
A. Sell me on the idea and maybe. Don't just say GREEN!! PINK!! PURPLE!! Tell me what outfit you want to wear it with. The colours at the moment are all pretty muted and I like it that way for my game because it means they match more things than if I made a day-glow pink version. New hair is more tricky so you have to really sell it. Remember only the front part will show so it has to be a style that will look significantly different to what is already available. If you want one of the afro styles, I tried... and it looked crap. I'm still trying to do a version that will completely cover your hair (if you have a shaved style) but I can't get it to look good. I am working on it though.

Q. How do you make what are essentially wigs change colour at the armor workbench?
A. PM and I'll tell you. I can even make an ESP that just adds the mods and keywords so all you'll have to do is add in your wigs and add the appropriate keywords. I might just upload this as a modder's resource anyway.

Q. Can I get your character in my game?
A. The main guy, yes. I uploaded a mod that adds Oliver as a preset. You just have to remove the stubble to get him looking exactly the same as the he does in these shots. The new guy (Josh), I might share but I don't know yet.
