About this mod

Allows modifying Survival Hardcore mode eating and drinking time frequency to anybody's liking, and as of version v1.3 sleeping can also be modified. I have also changed certain aid items and chems to no longer cause immediate hunger and thirst, which was ridiculous. Instead I have created my own fun, yet realistic and challenging side effects.

Customizable Needs + Realistic Aid Side Effects

Check out this great video review made by TheAdiposeTV, he summarizes the mod (v1.3) very nicely.

(You have the option to pick whether you want only the Customizable Needs Module or both Modules.)

Customizable Needs Module:

Will allow you to modify the time frequency in which your character will need to eat and drink in Survival Mode, this can be done through a special holotape that I made just for you found in the "Misc Tab". It will tell you everything you need to know, so don't worry. If you have any complications acquiring the holotape then type this command on the console (help "Customizable Needs" 4) and use the additem command with the proper object reference value displayed by the help command. Will need a console enabler mod like this one.

Update V1.3: You will now be able to disable your character's need for sleep. And there is also a feature for you to check your needs through the mod holotape, or by using an aid device which can be assigned a hotkey. This will display the player's current food and drink pool, as well as the current sleep point level. The numerical values are explained with a string(word) next to them.

Update v2.0: You will now be able to select whichever values you desire for hunger and thirst frequency through the Custom Selection Menu, this is useful if you need to increase the food and drink cost per hour values above 6.

Update v2.1: The sleep menu has been vastly improved, now there are three different ways to modify your sleep pattern. How long it takes to become tired, changing the hour requirement for the well rested status, and changing the minimum amount of hours required for sleeping to cure sleep deprivation effects (shorter naps will count).

Update v2.3: Over-Encumbered Damage Effect can now be toggled On and Off.

Update v2.5: Disease Effects can now be toggled On and Off. This can disable all mod added side effects as well as vanilla diseases.

Realistic Aid Side Effects Module:
So far I have modified the most annoying aid supplies, which are the Stimpaks, Antibiotics and Radaway. They would cause you to become either immediately thirsty or immediately hungry in vanilla hardcore survival mode as a means to balance their usage, and that annoyed me so much! This didn't make any sense and lacked effort. WTF Bethesda... Chems also no longer cause thirst either, I forgot to mention this earlier.

Note: Mod side effects do not stack with themselves, but different side effects do stack with each other! (eg., Rad-X + Stimpak = AP Refresh -75%)

- Stimpaks: Boost your body's stem cells into a frenzy, causing extremely rapid regeneration of tissue and limbs! This has a downside however, as the process requires an immense amount of energy. All your Action Points are drained with each Stimpak, and while you're healing your AP regeneration is slowed down by 25%. Certainly a much more interesting way to balance Stimpak usage.

- Antibiotics: My favorite modification! Self injecting of antibiotics is now a risky task, with a 4% (1 in 25) chance of developing an Antibiotic Resistant Bacterial Infection which will weaken you significantly. This infection is untreatable and will last a minimum of 2 days the first cycle, the following 2 day cycles (Update: Now 1 day cycle) your body's immune system will have a 75% chance to defeat the infection day after day. If it doesn't manage to do so, then get ready to face more agony for your careless use of random antibiotics. As an alternative you can leave the administering of dangerous antibiotics to professional Doctors graduated in the uhh Commonwealth... They know what they are doing and you will not suffer at their hands. I suggest only using antibiotics by you own account if you think the risk is worth it given the situation, otherwise make a quick trip to the Doctor's office.

Update 1: Now the chance to develop an antibiotic resistant bacterial infection is based on the medic perk, with no medic perk the chance is 10% (quite risky), but by getting all the medic perks you can bring it down to 1% (nearly risk-free). The percentage will go down by decrements with each medic perk.
Thanks to Midnette for the idea.

Update 2: The effect still lasts a minimum of 2 days, but the 25% chance for the infection to stay will apply a new effect called Persistent Infection which will only have a minimum cycle of 1 day instead of 2. Also the pill icon will no longer appear in green but in red, signifying a bad effect.

Update v2.5: Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria side effect duration has been halved, instead of the 1st cycle lasting 2 days it will now last 1 day, and instead of the persistent infection cycles lasting 1 day they will now last half a day.

Update v2.6: The Antibiotic Resistance side effect has been balanced, it no longer reduces HP by 25%, now it only reduces both Strength and Endurance by -2. This was done to make this particular effect fit in better with a new mod that I plan to release soon in the coming weeks.

- RadAway: Apparently according to Bethesda's logic, a radiation medication suppresses your immune system and makes you weak but it makes you immediately hungry as well, the original side effect is fine but I took away the causes hunger effect. Whenever I've been sick and weak I sure as hell lose my appetite.

- Rad-X: Now has a balancing side effect which was suggested by a fellow mod supporter, I thought it was a good idea in terms of balancing the use of the drug. Rad-X will now cause muscle fatigue which means that your AP will regenerate 50% slower while the Rad-X is active, so when using this drug to sprint out of a radioactive area you will have to choose your escape route wisely to conserve AP.

- Hunger and Thirst Effects: The peckish and parched sustenance effects will no longer be detrimental, but rather serve as a warning to remind the player to eat and drink something before suffering the consequences. I find this much less annoying, and is inspired from Realistic Needs & Diseases from the Skyrim Nexus.

- Future plans: Give me ideas, I'm sure it'll be fun implementing the good ones :D.

Survival Add-Ons:
- Sleep Anywhere Add-On: This add-on will allow you to get a good night's sleep on all types of beds (normal beds, floor mattresses and sleeping bags). You may now sleep like a true survivor out in the woods when you go camping, no more sleeping bag discrimination! I Really don't know why Bethesda implemented this sleeping restriction, it just felt downright unrealistic having to find a house bed with a frame in order to sleep well. Well that is not how a true badass gets a good night's sleep ;).

Requirements:

- Patch 1.5+, Fallout 4 Survival Hardcore Mode.

Installation:
- Use NMM, or any other mod manager. Highly recommended!
- Please follow the uninstall instructions if you have v1.3 or older before installing v2.0+.

Uninstallation:
- Important: When switching from the the lite to the full version of the mod or vice-versa, please follow the uninstall instructions first. Both of these versions aren't fully interchangeable, as of v2.0 they will be more interchangeable but to be safe please always uninstall properly first to prevent lingering effects.
- Use the uninstall option in the mod's holotape main menu, this will remove all active mod effects and get everything ready for you to remove the files through a mod manager.
- Short Summary of Steps: Click yes to uninstall in the mod holotape, save the game and exit, then you may proceed with removing the mod files using a mod manager, and finally save the game again with all the mod files already removed. The last save will no longer be tied to this mod (Clean Save).

Recommendations:
Try out my other mod if you want more realistic and customizable adrenaline game-mechanics.
- Adrenaline Rush by Yours Truly

Compatibility:
- Compatible with Valdacil's Item Sorting using a patch, and Chem Redux no patch needed. Realistic Aid Side Effects will be incompatible with any mod that modifies Stimpaks, Antibiotics, RadAway or Rad-X.
- Any mod that modifies Survival Mode game mechanics should be checked for incompatibility with FO4Edit, if it edits HC_Manager script or properties then it will be incompatible with this mod. A video tutorial for using FO4Edit here. Although using this tool it may also be possible to create your own compatibility patch.
- Any mod that allows you to modify survival needs in terms of changing the frequency of hunger, thirst and sleep as opposed to simply turning effects on or off, is going to be highly incompatible since it probably edits the HC_ManagerScript. Well you really shouldn't ever be using two mods which do the same thing.
- Try to load low in the load order to make sure nothing is overridden by another mod. (IMPORTANT!)
