I've been having this 'press C to crash' issue for a while now, through more than one version...
Simple work-around that doesn't require console or anything: Just don't bother doing anything 'looksmenu' specific (you can still do hair, face, etc - heck anything beyond trying to remove the clothes!), wait until you're almost to the end of the prologue and about to exit the Vault - Simply remove the Vault-suit with the pip-boy and BAM! clothes removed without having to use the C key at all. Sure, there are camera angle limitations at play, but that's true of the 'initial' char-gen scene as well anyway.
I do however, have a MUCH worse issue - I'll see if I can start a separate thread for it though, to not take this thread off topic. Short version: Nothing gets 'saved'.
whenever i enter: showlooksmenu player 1 my pc just crashes entirely forcing me to restart my computer. anyone know what could be causing this? I use Loot, fo4edit, and wrye bash... still running into this problem... gonna try a new fresh char/save and see if slm p1 works on that
For what it's worth I'm just gonna toss in a "me too" on this. I know it's a known issue but considering it causes me to do a reset of my whole PC instead of just FO4 crashing, I'm a little miffed.
Use the console command 'openactorcontainer 1' to go into their inventory and the t key to toggle their outfit off/on. You may need to transfer some clothing items over to remove their existing outfit eg: Hooded robe and green cap from memory. A bit of a pain but it only takes seconds. You can always use the TAI key to freeze them so they don't walk off halfway through etc.
i have the same issue when i click the clothes tab freezes and i have to either sign out or restart the pc and then wait for the game to load up again it's frustrating when you want to make a new character
