    Compatible with FO4Hotkeys.

I highly recommend using Take Cover in conjunction with FO4 Hotkeys!

You can grab the optional file in the Files tab to add a binding for <Shift + Right Mouse Button> to activate Take Cover.

You can also assign the Take Cover activator to a slot in FO4Hotkeys' Hotkey Manager.

    Protips for Taking Cover!

Check out this article for some tips to maximize your cover experience.

I'm having a stupid issue: sometimes my zoom controls are switched, and sometimes the automatic take cover function don't work (even if I set it in 20), now if I want to zoom out, when I'm in the limit of zoom out, my camera changes to the first person camera, and not in the zoom in function (with these functions switched without change anything in my FO4 functions and hotkeys).

    Can someone help me?

I'm hoping someone can help me. I am attempting to use the optional recommended file but when I run update_hotkeys.cmd it fails to merge with Hotkeys.ini because it is looking in the data folder. I use Mod Organizer 2 so the majority of my mods are not stored within the Fallout 4 directory.

I don't use Mod Organizer but is it possible to move the file into the data folder, update and then move it back?

@Cyrus possibly but I am worried that will overwrite something in the data folder. The whole point of MO2 is to avoid touching that folder at all. Thank for the suggestion though.

Is it possible to set up multiple binds, I.E 1 bind for taking cover, another for switching from low to high cover?

To my understanding no. There is an option in the config menu of the holotape for this called 'Activator Behavior'.

Sooo guys. I was trying to be sneaky about this, but I'm having a bit of trouble with the animations. I've got an expansion mod to this all set up with the original author's source scripts edited, entries created using FO4edit, I'm trying to call it Go Prone...except I'm not exactly a 3d animator whiz. I was trying to use an idle animation from the Pose It mod and swap it out with the cover animations, but it isn't working. Can anyone help me out with this or just get it working themselves? I don't care who takes credit for the mod, I just want it made. Anyway, its idle gp9 from the Pose It mod. Of course, both authors would be credited and if I can figure out how, a requirement made for their mods. Really just want prone in the game. It's so possible.

I think I figured out at least part of the problem, but I have no clue what I need to fix it. Apparently there's different types of animations, and you can't just sub in an idle animation where, say, a combat animation is supposed to go. I'd say the mod author could pull it off but I think all the animations he used were already in the game as NPC animations, he just had to figure out a way to script them into being a usable part of the player options...really I just need a 3d animator whiz to crunch that one file into something usable and perhaps give me a crawl animation and a transition with it, although honestly I don't think anyone would really care about the gritty details, as long as they could prone with a sneak bonus and shoot shit.

You should try to write some animators like WarDaddy, Hitman etc and ask if they are willing to help.

For the information of anyone considering downloading this mod and anyone improving it, I will list the problems I have with it. First, though, I'd like to say that I love the concept and it is possibly useful, if you don't mind its shortcomings. If these things were fixed, I think this would be one of the best mods for Fallout 4.

-The known issues of switching to invisible weapons and not being able to move right basically make this unusable for me.
-If I am too close to an object when I take cover, parts of my player stick through it.
-If I turn too much while aiming from cover, it begins to aim through the object I am behind.
-Cover vaulting allows players to jump through walls and any object really. I also have not gotten stuck with it, but I can see that happening.
-It is incredibly inconvenient to point my cursor up every time I want to go into cover standing up.
-If it could somehow sense the nearest object in front of the player and determine its height, I think that would be useful. You could then add a hot key to go into cover when you are close enough, similar to how talking to NPCs works. Also you could automatically go in standing or crouching. Perhaps the player would also snap to the appropriate distance, so there would be not sticking through objects. Also, it could prevent the player from jumping over high objects, maybe?
-I think cover should automatically exit if the player moves out of range of the object. Alternatively, the player should be prevented from moving away from cover unless using the exit cover button / backing movement. (Left and right movement bounded by cover object, back exits, front only aims over)
-The forward movement key while in cover should be repurposed for trying to aim over the top of objects while crouching (assuming left and right movement works)
    -MCM compatibility would be great

Anyway, I don't know how practical all of these are. I just got Fallout 4 and I have little experience modding. If I get somewhat skilled at it, maybe I'll revisit this later. I do have a programming background and am interested in modding. Until someone improves it, unfortunately, I'll be disabling it.
