This is the configuration I came up for the quad-rotor VTO.It looks scary.
I'm a bigger fan of the 2 rotor version myself,less bulky and contorted.

Me too. I feel that the rotors would spin into each other, then again I'm no expert. What if the thrusters moved like on the harrier jet?

  The back rotors are higher up like in some military carrier helicopters that have the larger rotor higher up on the heaviest half of the craft.SO there'l be no blade collision.In the next version the larger rotors will be in the front (since the cockpit shifts the balance forward) and the blades will fold downwards.

  Fun fact: Chinook's twin rotors do overlap but they are synchronized so that they do not make contact with each other.
