   Possible also used the small basement bunker in sanctuary as a way to stake out the vault, but then again why would he need to walk there?

      Kellogg went straight to the institute with the real shaun, the one you see in the memory is the synth child and there would be no reason for kellogg to leave diamond city with the synth

      We don't know that, though. No one ever outright said he teleported straight away. He could've gone to his home base as a secure location to teleport without being seen. Especially since he's got the mayor looking out for him there.

   It's an interesting idea and one of the many ideas I wish bethesda had fleshed out more.
