About this image

HEADCANON:
Cait, after being cured of her addiction, decided to leave the Commonwealth in order to take care of old business and find herself.  After several months (possibly years), she returned.  This picture shows her arrival back in the Commonwealth in this new post-Institute era.

I don't give too much credence to an image collection wherein the majority of pictures are homogeneous T&A exercises tilted at 45 degrees for "effect" and "inclusion", often endorsed more for social reasons than for innovation or creativity. So... keep doing what you're doing. It's fun and interesting.  ; )

This one captures the character, I think.

That said, I have a question about the background/landscapes behind to these characters: Are they actual, processed images from FO4? Or are they generated images based on descriptors? Looks like the latter to me. I wonder whether the characters could be transferred to and blended in with highly-processed F04 "landscapes" relatively seamlessly. With some work, I think they could.

No, most of the elements from the backgrounds are also ai generated, though not necessarily from the same prompt.  This one, for instance, was originally rendered at 4:3...but I had decided to post everything at that point at 16:9 so I had to render out a new scene (just of a different post-apocalyptic street) to expand for the sides.  I tried to blend it and use multiple overlays to cover up the changes but, if you look close, you can probably see some inconsistencies in the textures.

That would be interesting, to put one of these against an HD background from upscaled Fallout assets.  I've seen a few really well done Unreal Engine 5 pieces that attempted to do something like that and recreate fallout environments - but nothing that looked like it was a direct port of fallout 4 models.

I've dabbled in Unreal but I'm far from having any real skill in it. If there are any Unreal 5 experts out there that would be interested in a collaboration, I'd be down for it.

Unreal would be one way. The other way would be to import the image into shots of in-game FO4 landscapes at extreme resolutions and then break out the tools - filters, blenders, etc.

Actually...come to think of it, that would work really well for an a problem I might have had with an upcoming image!  I wanted to have a character standing standing on a rooftop with the Fallout 4 skyline in the background.

So, does anyone out there have a maximum resolution panorama of F04's skyline?

      Thanks, Jedlock01.
At this point, I've jut started blocking and deleting those posts from this guy (and his aliases).  Like I've said in other responses, I'm perfectly open to constructive criticism, even nitpicking, but I've lost all patience with pointless trolling.

You posted - quick check -  *5* screenshots in the last month.
It looks like you've put a decent amount of effort into modding your game to take those shots.  They're all pretty good.
Are you going to okay with me leaving shitty comments on Every. Single. One.?  Not for any real reason, just *because*. Saying, "you're lazy", "you're cheating", "you're lying" on those pictures and every other picture you post from here on because I haven't bothered to think about the effort that you actually put into taking those.
What if use multiple accounts to support all my comments - in essence, agree with myself and flood your comments section with negativity?

I would imagine you'd get irritated pretty quickly, too.

This is looking insane. I can barely tell that it's AI based. Your post production makes this appear seemless.

i can only agree with DarkDominion, why post it puplicly if its only for you?

    Some critisim on the picture:

    - i like the topic of using a motorcycle as centerpiece
    - background is a bit to much "pushed" back by a filter, but otherwise fitting, would like to see some life, run down streetvendor
    - proportions of the motorcycle seem off (front wheel)
    - her position is irritating, somehow i expect her other leg/foot to bee seen between the motor and front wheel
    - where is here right hand resting on? why not put it on the handle?
    - and last one which is kinda harsh, but if you hadn't titled it cait i would have no idea it is supposed to be her. the girl looks like a 20 year old instagram model who wants to fit in the burning man thing. Cait was beaten to s#*! several times, is a heavy drug addict with a shity live. can't see any of that.

Okay, for the most part, this is constructive criticism.  I have no problem with that.
      - The thing about a.i. is, a lot of the time, it just does what it wants.  You can tell it, "No shallow depth of field", but it doesn't always listen.  In this case, Backgrounds with that much constructed detail can tend to look janky.  The shallow depth of field is probably hiding a lot of artifacts.
      - Again, it's the a.i.'s best guess on the proportions.  I'm not really a motorcycle guy so any disproportions didn't really stand out to me.  If you want a "headcanon" reason, we could say that the bike had to be rebuilt from mismatched parts.  Think of it like a Mad Max bike.
      - This picture is composed of elements from about 20 different pieces.  I swapped out the handlebars from a different version where the handlebars didn't render out as well. To be honest, I didn't really see an issue with that would require rebuilding her entire arm - ...It's resting on the side of the gas tank.
      - Charlize Theron was (in her time, at least) one of the hottest women in Hollywood.  She was still cast as a one-armed badass truck driver in Fury Road.  There are **multitudes** of modded game screenshots of Cait on here where she looks like a tall statuesque supermodel.  Did you post the same criticism  under each one?  Don't think so. If you want another head-canon reason, this is meant to be from much later in the main game. Several months or years after the main story has already wrapped.  Cait has gone through the process of getting clean, left to find herself/come to terms and has only just arrived back in the Commonwealth (hence the motorcycle).

      "Why post it publicly?"
Yeah, sure, I can admit it, a little bit of it is an ego boost but that's only a small part of it.
It's the same reason anyone posts pictures here, you've managed to capture something that you think looks cool and you think other people might appreciate it, too.
I've been checking out screenshots here since I joined, 8 years ago.  I've been inspired by a lot of them, to redefine the characters and change elements of my game.  Probably a big reason why I'm still playing Fallout 4.  Why wouldn't I want to contribute back to that?  The things is, after all this time, every possible screenshot has already been taken, every part of the game has been explored.  This, as far as I'm concerned, is just the next step.

Do you know what's really weird?  8 years of checking out screenshots, sending endorsements, bypassing the truly god-awful ones - tens of thousands of screenshots - as far as I can recall, I've felt the need to leave a insulting comment on any of them.  Weird, huh?

Some of my points are opinions, and when discussing art it usually is about opinions, not so much facts. For the proportions/pose stuff: i am also not a motorcycle guy, but when i looked at the picture i regocnized i looked at those more then i should, which tells me i think something is off. it is for a reason that drawing humans/faces is hard because we all know em that well.
For the char resembling cait: Sure i could comment that on every supermodel replacer out there, but for me i usually don't browse the screenshot section. The fact that your pic is not a screenshot was what made me look at it in the first place. My opinion still stands that i don't see cait in her. I work with addicts as my job and may be baised on that.

For the not art only-for-me and still posting part. It think what strikes me (and it seems others as well) it is like me making this comment and stating that it is only for me. But you do you, if you don't like the interaction, comments can be turned of i believe.

Excellent work, I like seeing your Fallout inspired AI shots and can appreciate the amount of effort involved as I've tried with dismal results.  I'm fascinated with this AI technology and am glad you share your pictures here.  Keep doing what you're doing!
