Edit - went back to listen to the videos. The first one gave me a bad case of welder's eyes......... I never was a "real" soldier. But I've seen enough footage of our own veterans - and their families - on the news to have an inkling of what it's about
The carrier was a nice and lighthearted relief
My wife was an Army brat and lived all over the country and in a couple places overseas. Her Dad served 3 tours in Vietnam with 4 kids at home. When the 4th tour came up, he said -- I'm outta here -- despite being only 1 year short of 30. A lot of hardship for the family as well as the serviceman.
And if I hear one more person, glibly say, "Thank you for your service," I...well, I don't know what I'm going to day, but it's so phony.
Thanks for the set -- always some good laughs. Hey, the Air Force does it with jets roaring and flaming. Yee haw.
Can't blame her Dad for that decision, enough is enough... The hardships no one understands unless they experience it... for the kids, Dad always gone is a high price, I know. The wives in my estimation pay the greatest cost of all.
I remember in our day not many gave a acknowledgement at all and now as you say so many acknowledgements are glibly given which is worse than none whatsoever. My opinion.
