You can build the map in workshop.
Every settlement is marked by a lamp on the map:
Dark: Settlement is not owned by player
Green: Settlement is player owned
Red (slow blink): Settlement has resource problem
Red (fast blink): Settlement is under attack
Yes, it shows mod added settlements (check Fort Hagen or Concord above).
