I look at this, and it screams Gauss to me moreso than Laser. It feels too.... analog, I guess. For one, you've got the coils of copper wire that seem to generally be used on Gauss designs both in the original game and in other mods that have come out. There's more that I can't put into words at the moment (and I've tried about 10 different ways in writing this), but the metal texture also feels "wrong" for laser, but perfect for Gauss.
As an aside, this also reminds me somewhat of the 14mm/12.7mm pistols from the West Coast games, in the slide & back half, mixed with the FO3-era 10mm lower front and those FO4-era Gauss coils. It's a fun juxtaposition that would give me hell in my personal naming tastes. My understanding of the (loose?) canon is that the 10mm is from Colt, and the 12.7mm is from SIG-Sauer. I guess maybe they partnered for this one? :laugh:
