Woah! Wasn't expecting you to be working on this again! One of my favorite mods in the game.

The Plasma Defender from New Vegas is essentially the Glock 86, the pistol looks similar to the design, the bottom half is good, its just the top area where the ammo is, which personally i don't like as it reminds me of the LAER or recharger pistol or some version of a laser pistol. Other then that its a great design.

I have a question for native English speakers: can the word "armed" be used in the context of loading a cartridge into a weapon slot, or fondly using "loaded" / "equip" or something? I just like the way it looks in the preview, but the meaning is obviously completely wrong.

The term "armed" generally means that a person has a weapon (ex. "we're armed here" when talking to Blake Abernathy means that the family is carrying weapons) but it can definitely mean that a weapon has a cartridge in the chamber. Usually "armed" isn't used to say that a gun has a cartridge in the chamber, however saying that a gun has a round in the chamber is best considered "loaded", and in some cases like on black powder rifles the term "primed" can be used.

Looking good, but there is too much geometry, imo. I think you should think about optimization a little bit more. Check for non silhouette edges and verts, especially cavities or sockets on the barrel. Also you can reduce amount of edges on the circle/ round parts. You can bake most of the details into the normal map, such as the naming/label on the barrel. Also it would be smart to create a simplified npc/world version of this gun like the original F4 weapons have. I haven't seen anyone use this technique/feature, which is a shame, cause it's very useful, because you simply don't need that much details for the NPC's weapons as the one you see in 1st person. Anyway good luck with this.

If you're have potato pc - no one optimisation will help.
IMO, polygon count is good enough. Sometimes better left thing meshed, not normalized.

Yes, these are midpoles, which I will try to optimize. So the lettering and some ribs are more likely to be done by baking. But this already weighs less than the previous model :D

My pc is good enough to run F4 on ultra with consistent 60 fps. I'm just thinking about it like a game developer, who's trying to do things as efficient as possible. You can say its my professional habit. And i'm trying to give advice to other people, there's nothing wrong with that, right? Higher polycount doesn't mean its better. It's just wasted geometry if it doesn't affect anything. Also There is no reason to give npc's guns as detailed as the one player uses in 1st person, so i can't see the reason to not to make optimized version for it.

I literally despise the 3rd person model technique, because I play in third person and it makes looking cool difficult when you're stuck with the "optimized" model.

Bethesda just has a badly optimized rendering engine, most other games use significantly higher polygon models than what Beth games ship with.

It looks wonderfully steampunk. However, I do think the grip would benefit were the bulbous base to be removed. Of course that's just my opinion but I can imagine it would be difficult to holster and wield. Also it would add unnecessary weight unless it had a specific function and purpose, in which case it's perfectly sensible. Also bear in mind that typically, manufacturers and companies that produce items want to streamline production and reduce costs as far as possible to maximise profit. if it is a custom-built one-off item, that's an entirely different matter. Just my two cents as they say.
