About this image

Hello Nexus community!
Long time no see, but I'm back (for those who remember).

After a year-long hiatus, I come back to swipe the dust-off my 3D projects, and along with it an overhaul to the Gallant's Gun project.
The main reason for it was that the original Gallant's gun was a too frankestein monster of a gun, inspired by games such as Escape from Tarkov, too many mods and that didn't made much sense and didn't defined the Machine Pistol slot that the gun is trying to fit in.
It also took to much time and the end result was unsatisfactory regarding gun manufacturing and scavenging-economics, it felt quite off and "it just works" . The new gun aim to create a more believable design (with design drawing mostly from existing guns such as UZI, MAC 11 and VZ SA 23 to name a few), along with simpler and more streamlined moding, more similar to games such as Metro:Exodus, where the gun can be modified to fill certain rolls, but only so far.

For full 3D view of the gun and some of the mods (but not all) it showcases, check out this link below:

https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Aq99we

Regarding the old mod, I don't intend to use any previous 3D already made (except for sights and optics) , but the Gallants Gun served as an important stepping (specialy in concept and gun design research) stone in discovering what was the best production pipeline and how to optimize for Fallout 4 (altough the mod was never released, I implemented it into my own PC as to test it).

Lore wise (for those who care),  Mathew Gallant is still the original designer of the Squire MP, and will be show in-game with a caravan selling unique mods and variants for the Squire MP.

Regarding the mod, the now Squire Machine Pistol, all 3D is done and ready to be inserted into Creation Kit, which I hope to do by the end of the weekend. Next week will be mostly animations and bug/balance fixing. But if animations becomes too much of a hassle, I intend to release it with 10mm Pistol animations, and wait if some brave and noble soul wants to create any custom meshes.

When I manage to put all mods and pieces inside Fallout 4 I will give you guys a heads-up regarding future mods and projects, as of now, I already have the concepts for 30+ guns, each distributed in gameplay styles, weapon classes and roles.
Hope you enjoy it,

See you on the wasteland.

This makes me want to cry. It's f***ing beautiful. I cannot understate how amazing lore friendly cool guns are.

I'm really hoping you make an assault rifle type weapon. A legit 'handmade assault rifle' would be killer and would put beth to shame.

EDIT: Do you have any recommendations on getting into 3d modeling and design? I know I'm capable but its a bit daunting

Not gonna lie, I was really looking forward to this.  What happened?  As someone with several mod projects uncompleted myself, I get it.  I just can't help but love this, it looked so good!

Will there be a stock inbetween the makeshift stocks & the bakalite collapsing stock? Something akin to an Uzi or Skorpion stock where its cheap, but still professionally made.

Gotta say, both this and the original Gallant's Gun are some of the best looking post-war gun designs I've seen for any Fallout game. I'm dying to know: how familiar are you with real world small arms design? Some of this is *extremely* reminiscent of small arms design from countries like South Africa where production costs and materials quality were relatively low. Are you using stuff like that as references/inspirations or is all of this your own design?

      Hey, thanks a bunch!
Yeah, I spend a lot (maybe TOO much) time on research. Altough it is not shown, I actually went after a functioning trigger mechanism, and modeled so the whole design could actually fit the "lower receiver". My main source of "knowledge" is from Forgotten Weapons, but I also take a look at TFB and a homemade-only firearm blog. I research into domestic firearms production (such as Chechen War, Rhodesia, and places like theKhyber pass and Kabul Markets). Regarding proper modeling and concepting, I always think of how the gun is manufactured and how it will be dissassembled, and if the technology that is involved. So a lot of billet/milling, CnC machines and laiths, bend metal and pre industrial ways of forging and making firearms. But I like to think that it makes for pretty believable firearms, but at the cost of a very long dev cycle (I am trying to be less of a gun nut in the next entries of guns, as I waste too much time on things that ultimately won't make into the final asset, such as internals, trigger mechanism etc).
      Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed.

Just when I was thinking that FO4 really needs a telescoping bolt type of lore-friendly looking smg. Great stuff!

      Thanks!
Many other designs are still to come! (delayed blowback, gas-operated, short-stroke, long stroke, long recoil...)

the gun looks really great, somewhere between the SCAMP prototype pistol, a MAC-11, and some early KelTek guns I've seen. I hope you still do something with those cool electronic muzzle devices you came up with for the Gallant's gun, and same goes for the ammo types you made, either for this weapon or some future design. Also, other mod authors have done some really cool stuff with features like scope overlays for thermal optics, burst fire, and similar distinctive features, and I hope you try some of that stuff out. Your eye for detail and depth in your work is super impressive and stands out, so I'd really be excited to see your interpretations of that sort of stuff.

      Thanks!
Never heard of seen this SCAMP, but now I guess I have a base for the upcoming "scrap-science pistol" (Name not final).
I really liked the GG mods, but they felt awkawrd in a machine pistol (e.g. bayonets). I will definately be inspired by it to make appropriate "game-design" wise mods for other guns.
Will definately look into other people's work regarding general game mechanics. I still cry myself to sleep every night because of the lack of ammo changing and overall ammo variation. I love the idea, but I don't like ammo types to be just a "weapon mod". Let's see.
I haven't posted on nexus, but I made a total of 24 different sights, those are meant to be universal and will have a comeback in later designs.

But thanks again for the support.

While these guns look very nice, I think the old wip screenshots captured the spirit of fallout better. They looked gritty and raw and makeshift, while retaining resemblances to real life weapons and how they could be repaired and repurposed to maintain firing order. I wish you had released them. They were easily hot file material.

      Hi,
In this image it's showcased the highest level that the gun can get, earlier mods still have the scrappy look (check out the artstation link).
I am leaving the whole scrappy to a class of guns that I am calling "scrap level", they are early game and have very few mods available.
The Squire Machine Pistol fits in a "middle tier" of sorts.

      Also curious about this.

Awesome would be if you could release the unused material to the public or share it with some of us. I bet "ghostfc3s" or "anotherone" would love to make additions for the main mod.

That is good to hear. I also like the flashlight for a scope on the one model.
