Your pic is not bad at all )the thing is we are always in photo to be carefull with the high lights and the shadows trying to make a good balance between them, mainly on the face to have a skin rendering quiet natural always a trikky exercice to make even if you are used too.
when i was photographer irl, i was as many using photoshop and damn it's a big machine to handle sometimes.
Now i use a really cool soft,powered one, nothing making it blush in front of photoshop.
Google "ippicy", it's free, just an account to make to have all options unlocked, then you will have a lot of possibilities to treat the pics,it's intuitive with a real time result when you act a slide .
