Replaces vanilla recievers and some other weapon mods. Different calibers are going to have corresponding magazines. Hoping to release soon and would be glad to hear your comments.
I'd hope it remains compatible with Wardaddy's animation pack for the combat rifle and shotgun, and don't see any changes that would make that not work or necessitate a different set of animations.
The sights remain same as vanilla, same models and same position, so there won't be any conflict with other sight mods. The vanilla combat rifle was just too bulky, and therefore I narrowed the whole reciever and that caused the top of the cyclinder to be lower, that's the reason the rail seems higher, but is actually in the same height.
Big fan of pretty much every change I can see, fixing that huge chunky gas block in particular. Since I assume changing the mags for appropriate caliber will also entail changing the receivers to make them fit, will .45 for example use the thompson drum and stick mags, russian 7.62 the HMAR mag and drum assets, maybe 5mm/.22LR in the really slim vanilla magazines, 5.56 in the STANAG-esque mag in the picture, .308 in the vanilla assault rifle magazines, etc? If you make a .50 cal receiver, any design changes to the mesh (or barrels) to make it look semi-realistically bulky? Last bit, an ammo box setup as the .308 or .50 drum mag would be amazingly cool, as would better muzzle options and a way to change the wooden foregrip.
I admit that's a lot of crap, but I'd really love to see the Combat Rifle become feature rich enough to compete with modded guns for attention. It looks like excellent work so far.
Always bothered me to see the combat rifle having a full size rifle magazine and shooting .45, so I decided to take matters at hand. I want to stay as loyal to the vanilla specs as possible. I plan on using only three calibers, but changing the standart caliber from .45 to 5.56mm, changing the .38 reciever to .45 reciever (so that .45 users don't get upset), and finally leaving the .308 reciever as it is. So there are going to be 3 different recievers and magazines types, smg size, assault rifle size and battle rifle size. Also the mag you see in the pic is going to be the 5.56 mag, made from scratch but using vanilla textures, so if you apply a faction skin they adapt.
Fair enough, I tend to type a lot and get carried away, and I've been looking forward to a good rework of the Combat rifle. The 5.56 mag looks pretty good, essentially a not quite standardized NATO mag, hope you do a short and drum to go with. Similarly, with a tommy gun drum and some tweaks to the combat shotgun barrel and muzzle shroud would make it a cool PPSH lookalike. Are you keeping the weirdly thin vanilla magazines for .308, tweaking them, or using some other asset? I really think the vanilla assault rifle magazines would better fit the battle rifle look since they were originally meant to be .308, and help distinguish from the combat shotgun. And do you think you'll do anything with the barrels or muzzles? Different suppressors and compensators for the variety of calibers would be cool, like the assault rifle flash hider and 5.56 suppressor, the tommy gun and shotgun compensators, or even the squared off 10mm suppressor, even if incompatibility of the rounds is not a real issue in game.
