About this image

This is an image from a FO4 mod I'm working on called Weapon Addition and Replacement Suite (WARS).

The WIP thread can be found here.

The vanilla "Submachine Gun" art assets are... well, I won't mince words; they're somewhat misshapen, inaccurate and ugly. Fortunately, sgtbarney kindly contributed some much better - and much more true-to-life - meshes for me to include in WARS, replacing the vanilla SMG assets. I adapted them for use in FO4 (making some minor changes and additions in the process) and gave them some textures.

Here's a comparison between the basic Thompson and a fully-modified one.

The vanilla SMG is full-auto only, but WARS makes semi-auto and select-fire Thompsons possible, with the weapon name changing dynamically between "Thompson Carbine" and "Thompson Submachine Gun" as appropriate.

The vanilla "Short Stock" has been replaced with simply "No Stock" - since there's no such thing as the former as far as I know, while the latter is as simple as removing the stock. The "Recoil Stock" (again, no such thing for the Thompson as far as I know) has been removed in favour of a separate "Recoil Pad" weapon mod.

The standard horizontal fore-grip is now on its own weapon mod slot and can be swapped out for the iconic Thompson vertical fore-grip.

There are now four magazine options: 20 and 30 round stick mags, plus 50 and 100 round drum mags. No "quick-eject" magazines (none in WARS at all for that matter). If you want a faster reload, you'll need to use one of the stick mags.

Ahhhh man that's beautiful. Fantastic job! It always frustrated me that there was no foregrip in vanilla, but seeing this makes me so excited! The gorgeous retexture is just the cherry on top. I can't wait for this! Well done!

Now that's beautiful. Anims are already done for this pretty boy?

By the way, the Thompson will have like a "MP5" role in-game? How's it integrated into the mod?

It's currently using War Daddy's right-handed SMG animations, and he's going to see about expanding the set to account for the new things I'm adding. (E.g. the vertical fore-grip and the stick mags.)

The Thompson will have a "Thompson" role in-game. This is replacing the vanilla SMG. I've given it some new weapon mods and changed its stats/behaviour a bit - this is along with similar changes to the game's weapons generally.

Antistar mentioned the Thompson will use the Right-handed Submachine Gun Anims by WarDaddy and I guess it's integrated into the leveled list.

So, it's still going to be widespread and common like the previous Vanilla Thompson?

Considering that there will be the Skorpion and the Ar15 variants...

WaterHazard: I'll be overhauling what weapons NPCs spawn with. I haven't worked out the fine details yet, but Thompsons will likely be used mainly by the Triggermen and the Gunners. Maybe the Railroad too.

the texture looks like it came brand new out of a factory, other than that looks great. I think the tommy is most tolerable weapon in vanilla, and given the fact its still an abomination that says alot about the guns in the game

There's a fair bit of wear and tear on it, really - more noticeable in some of the other shots, probably - but I prefer this more subtle approach to total rust-bucket guns.
