Alternate Outcomes: Vault 81
Last Updated: November 10th, 2020
------------------------------------------------

Note: This alternate take on Vault 81 ships in the enabled state. If you do not wish to use this alternate outcome, disable it prior to entering Vault 81 and doing the quest to retrieve the molerate disease cure.

What this essentially does is alter how you experience Vault 81, as a result of your choices during MS19, Hole In The Wall, the quest to obtain the molerat disease cure from Curie. Everything this outcome does is handled via scripting, so it cannot be reversed once it kicks in. MS19 is the only form in CAP that has an override, aside from Diamond City Security's location and the only changes made to that quest are to enable a few cut lines of content from the player and Doctor Forsythe, in regards to the player being infected with the disease and deciding whether to keep the cure or not.

This outcomes also alters when Curie asks to be your companion. In the base game, this occurs AFTER you choose what to do with the cure. In CAP, she will ask to be your companion once she has given you the cure in the secret vault location.

What Does This Outcome Do?

Depending on your choices during MS19, you may get to enjoy the vault as a location you can visit and rest in or you could forever be barred from entry, becoming an enemy of the entire Vault 81 faction.

You could also become HIGHLY contagious, if infected with molerat disease, to the point that interacting with NPCs may kill them! There was an original intent on Bethesda's part for this to be in the base game, as evidenced by a few loose scripts in the game's source that are not used anywhere. They are not in a completed state and even if one were to put these scripts in place, they would not work. I have taken that original idea and completely implemented it. So if you are infected, any time you talk to an NPC, they may potentially die as a result of coming into contact with you. However, you can wear hazmat suits or gasmasks to remove this as a possibility. Only non-essential, randomly spawning NPCs will be affected. I didn't want to chance killing important, unique, quest giving NPCs.

This can be cured later in the game by means of my making Curie able to produce a second vial of molerat disease cure (yes, that isn't canon, but was a required mechanism all the same, to ensure you are not ALWAYS contagious).

Note: Curie will only approach the player about this second cure when her affinity is maxed out and is your current traveling companion.

If you are barred from Vault 81 as a result of your choices, you will no longer be able to open the vault door nor will you be able to fast travel into the vault. If you use console commands to do so, note that the faction is now your enemy and you will be considered hostile, forcing combat to begin with the entire vault population.
