Fallout 4

Sorry you're having troubles!  This behavior means that means that assets are not loading, or scripts are not running. Make sure your INI files are configured to load loose files covered in this article here.

Beyond that, 99% of the other cuase has been due to a failed NMM install.  If you store mods on a separate drive than where your game is installed, a lot of the time NMM will place blank files or do other odd things. This can also happen if you're using "Profiles" functionality in NMM. This is something that's been problematic for many months that doesn't seem like it will be fixed, and is a primary cause for a lot of the bugs reported on a lot of mods (invisible meshes, purple textures, no sounds, etc.)

The workarounds are:

  • Sometimes simply uninstall / re-install will work.
  • Try running NMM with administrator privileges, and uninstall / re-install the mod
  • Change your settings in NMM to store mods on the same drive as where the game is installed, uninstall/re-install the mod.
  • If all-else fails, try a manual install (drop files from the RAR into the /data/ folder and then tick the checkbox next the plugin in NMM's load order where all the ESP/ESM are listed.)

If you are using a pirated version of Fallout 4 you are going to have lots of issues with mods and I cannot offer you support.

Lastly, make sure if you are adding items to your inventory using the console, that you do so one at a time.  If you type "additem xxx 5" for example, all 5 items will have the same refID and the engine will not run container-based scripts on them!  This is a known issue since Morrowind.

Please comment here if you've experienced and resolved this issue.  The next version of Campsite will be a fully packaged BA2 archive which will be a little less problematic than loose files.

As one user stated, making sure the virtual folder is set to the same drive as the Fallout 4 install can help the problem:

"Just fixed my problem - I have different drives and under the NMM "settings" everything was on the same drive as my game. Eventually I realized the virtual folder info is under the NMM "tools". Once I changed that to the same drive as the game everything was solved."

Other users reported that running NMM as administrator fixed it for them:

"Try run nexus mod as administrator, then disable and enable mod. I had same problem and now it's working"

If your INI and NMM settings are absolutely correct, and you're still experiencing issues, you may be a candidate for a manual install.

Hi, Unfortunately I've tried all these workarounds and none have worked. I've crafted a sleeping bag (though the picture was invisible in the crafting interface) and now if I drop it on the ground it just disappears and can't be picked up. I'm playing survival and it's imperative I have a bed in the wastes.

I have the same issue, All campsite objects just disappear when dropped in the world.
The Mobile Mechanic 1.2 works fine though.

I've found another cause for this bug. Unfortunately, I haven't found a fix other than reload a save from before the bug occurred.

In my main save, as far as I can tell, no scripts are running. The first things I noticed were your two mods, Campsite and Mobile Mechanic, as they have very visible results when the scripts don't do their thing: items fall to the ground or hang in the air, without any possible interaction except to pick them back up. Other (vanilla) symptoms include bottles not filling from rivers (in survival, with a prompt to do so), caps and bobby pin stashes not picking up, and the decontamination arch not working. I think it may be screwing with some quests' ability to complete, too.

If it were a problem with the installation of a mod, then it should only affect that mod. Additionally, when I load up a new save (or a save branched from really far back, like first leaving the vault), Campsite and Mobile Mechanic work correctly. This is without leaving the game.

At first I thought it was your mods, and was upset when swapping to manual install did nothing. Then I found just how far-reaching my problem is, so now I blame FO4's script engine.
