About this mod

A complete reworking of the perks, making the player work much harder to get the perks they want. Also adds a little flavor text to nearly every perk. Broken Steel plugin finished. Working on CB add-on compatibility.

This is my first mod, so please understand that it may not be up to par with many others' mods. I started this, because while playing Fallout 3, I got the feeling that I could basically have any perk I wanted, with only minimal effort on my part. I felt this was a bit too lackluster, as I am accustomed to D&D and various other RPGs where you have to work for what you want, usually from the very start. If you didn't, then you would end up with some very weak stats/skills.

So, I began to use GECK for the first time, and found that I was much more right about how it had been done than I originally thought. If you just averaged your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points and took a little bit of a curve in how you raised your skills, you could pretty much choose any perk you wanted every single level! So, I took it upon myself to drastically change everything.

Now, there are requirements for nearly every perk. These requirements will usually require Stats, and sometimes will require both a stat and a skill. Some of them even require you to have a stat/skill to be below a certain value. I have done some light testing so far, and it is conceivable to always be able to have some sort of perk every level regardless of how you've built up your character. This mod is sort of a 'hard mode' mod, so people looking to make their game easier, don't even bother with this. I also made the lady killer and Black Widow perk gender neutral.

I am open to any sort of criticism, I'd prefer constructive criticism though. And I'm sure I've left lots of mistakes in my wake.

To install, just unzip to some temp spot and place the ESP file into your /fallout3/data directory.

Oh, and if anyone has a better idea about how I would go about making the CB add-on compatible, please let me know. It feels like I should just be able to make a simple ESP that changes the requirements of the perk, but that seems to always save the entire perk, and not just the requirements. So that's why I feel that I have to just change the requirements on the original esp. I'm not very experienced with this, so I could be wrong, which is why I'm asking for other's suggestions.

I now have the Broken Steel Plugin completed, and while playing around with it, I found the method to make it so certain perks will require other perks to work. This is something I've wanted it to do for quite some time, and I will be working on that next. i am still waiting on a response as to whether I can include a CB Add-on compatiblity plugin.

I got too ambitious and a lot of stuff happened, and I am very grateful the original copy was still available on the Nexus, because I lost my copy a while back. I will be working on compatibility with the Childhood Beginning Add-on that adds Little-Man/Cutie-Pie. You can just put perks reloaded right before the CB add-on esp, but that will make it so it is just as easy as before to acquire it. So, it's gonna require permission from the original author to just give a tweak to their perks, and make a new esp file with just those changes. Besides that, I'm also gonna be working on making this compatible with Broken Steel, and the lvl 30 cap. Sorry again, I will make sure to run my next mod much more maturely.

I've now added flavor text to nearly every single perk, only leaving out those which I felt Bethesda already did a fine job of. The doc now includes all of that in a table format. Sorry for taking so long to get everything incorporated. Now I'll give it a couple days and just listen to what others have to say. As I feel that I've actually got a finished beta done now that it has the flavor text.

Tomorrow I might be able to work out a full list of all the changes. It would be quite a long list though, as I changed nearly every perk. I will add that I made a couple perks 'freebies' to help keep a balance, and preserve the fun factor. The Bloody mess perk is one notable change. I took out the damage boost to balance out that it's free. Now it really is a 'just for fun' perk.

Oh, and you can easily see the requirements for each Perk by just going into your pipboy and checking the status tab > Perks. If any Attribute is said to be required as '4' then that means you will actually need that attribute to be less than or equal to 4. Not at least 4. Some of the perks may seem to have a greatly different requirement than the standard fare of what I've got the other ones requiring, that is because I like to have a couple of them to have strange requirements, but if others find it not up to par with the system, then just let me know and I will get those tweaked to fit more. I am always ready to give this file a change if needed.

About Broken Steel, I ordered the disc with Broken Steel and Point lookout, when I get it I will work on re adapting everything to fit that scale. Which will make things a whole lot easier, because a 20 level scale is kind of limiting.

After reading all the comments so far, I think that I will probably make some more changes by tomorrow. More balancing and tweaking. I hope to be able to make it so that the perks that require certain stats to be lower to be displayed as such in-game. This will require much more than what I originally did to alter these, but it's one of my main goals for this mod. I only hope that I can make this mod up to all of your aspirations. It's gonna be tough with the limited programming/scripting knowledge I have, but it will be a great learning experience for the field I'm in school for.

-Incompatibilities-

So far, the only problems I've had was running this with the CB add on for the childhood beginning mod. Which makes sense since the CB Add on does a direct change to Black Widow and Lady Killer. Maybe in the future I could modify the CB Add-on to have Cutie Pie and Little Man have the more stringent requirements. So any other mods that modify perks will most likely conflict.
