Permissions and credits
Do you suffer with stuttering radio songs? Do you wander the wasteland in silence because the radio is unbearable? Well suffer no longer with the Radio Stutter Fix! And all without having to change codecs or sound drivers like many fixes would have you do.

Description
This is a simple mod which tells the game to use .wav files instead of .mp3, as fallout appears to read mp3s inefficiently. The game comes with .wav versions of each song already so the only file you need is v0.5 Radio Stutter fix, although this will only be in mono it is very small and easy. To get all the songs in stereo is simple though, just download my v0.7 or v0.8 Radio Stutter Fix, which comes with a guide that tells you how to unpack the songs and convert them into wav files. These files only fix radio stutter, not skipping. This is usually the reason for radio stutter:

"In Windows Vista, Microsoft has decided to remove the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for DirectSound and DirectSound3D. The HAL is the software layer that in previous Windows operating systems enabled an audio accelerator such as the Sound Blaster X-Fi to provide DirectSound3D applications with hardware accelerated audio. This enabled soundcards to perform tasks such as sample-rate conversion, mixing, 3D spatialization using HRTFs, filtering, and effects processing. Without the HAL, DirectSound on Windows Vista will be rendered in software with no advanced functionality such as EAX." (according to Creative)

Radio stutter usually manifests itself by causing popping and silences that sound similar to skipping (but are different to skipping you will know if you hear it) in the music on the pipboy only, so speech is not affected. If you suffer from radio skipping, the most obvious difference being the lack of popping that is a characteristic of stutter, which is usually caused by running fallout 3 on a slow computer this will not fix your problem, only an upgrade to your system will fix this. If you are unsure then send me a message, and if you can produce a recording that would result in an easier diagnosis. By all means give this a try, but if it doesn't work then you know you suffer from skipping.

Creative Soundcards
People using a Creative soundcard may be able to fix radio stutter by downloading Creative ALchemy from http://www.soundblaster.com/alchemy/

DIY Guide
I have now released a comprehensive DIY guide which tells you how get all the stations fixed. Includes fixes for all radio stations, how to merge this with other mods for compatibility and how to change the volume of the tracks. Note: requires bsa unpacker, mp3 to wav converter and audio software, the guide includes links to free software for all three. Also, if people want me to I will release a guide with screenshots for ease of use. If you want to use the GNR extender and it stutters the method is exactly the same, if you contact me I will release a guide if you don't know how to do it. I can't upload the files as they are too large.

OLD

Version 0.8
Includes stutter fixes in stereo and a bug fix where Three Dog from GNR repeats song intros or declarations of news. IMPORTANT: This mod requires a BSA unpacker which is free from http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6289 and an MP3 to WAV converter such as daniusoft which is free from http://www.daniusoft.com/mp3-wav-converter.html For full details of how to use these please download the DIY guide.
Update: I uploaded version 0.8 again as I made a mistake in the readme.

Version 0.7
V0.7 of the Radio Stutter Fix brings stereo sound to your stutter free experience! Currently I am having trouble uploading large files so it will include a guide that says which files need to be unpacked and how to edit them so they are compatible with the esp. Its not a long process and is well worth it, I reccomend this over the mono versio (v0.5). This file includes the stereo fix for the enclave and GNR stations, the mono fix for the vault 101 station (of which there is only a mono version)and the violin station (of which there is only stereo). For the violin station to work download the 6 v0.6 packs and install the music files or unpack the violin files (look in the comment section for a list of which files), but use the v0.7 esp! Forgot to include this in the readme sorry guys.

I would merge the files from the BETA and v0.7 and upload but it is too large, so after the test phase I'll change the readme for v0.7 to include the guide to get the violin station. for people who can't wait the method is exaxtly the same, just search for violin in the sound bsa.

Version 0.6
This used to be called BETA but no problems have been reported as of yet. This includes the mono fix for the GNR, enclave, violin and vault 101 stations. V0.6 comes with all the files so all that is needed is to download it and install.

Version 0.5
Only fixes the GNR and enclave stations in mono.

Future Goals:
*Fix volume difference between music and voice files. Temporary fix available
*Fix issue where pressing escape stops radio (for the moment just reselect the station it should start playing again).
*Fix other radio station mods or notify people of how to fix these themselves.
