DOCUMENTAION FOR "MR.FUSION LASER RIFLE" MOD

Compatibility & Prerequisites: This weapons uses models and textures from the FOOK weapons mod.
You can find that Mod here: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4448

***THE MAIN ESP WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT FOOK***
***USE THE NON-FOOK VERSION IF YOU DON'T HAVE FOOK***

Edit: I added a Non-FOOK version for those that want it that should be compatible with vanilla Fallout 3. However, this version lacks the spiffy sniper scope and is rather generic looking. But hey, it's there.

P.S. - Thanks to the FOOK team for making all their hard work, without which this item would not be anywhere near as cool.

F.A.Q:

Q: What the fark is a Mr.Fusion Laser Rifle?

A: Remember the famous "Mr.Fusion" device seen at the end of the movie "Back to the Future?" This is a energy weapon based on that same idea. The Mr.Fusion Laser Rifle doesn't use energy cells of any type to power itself. Instead it uses JUNK, breaking it down and converting it into raw energy that is stored in it's own internal battery (maximum 120 shots at a full charge).

Q: Is it some kind of uberweapon?

A: It is for all purposes a standard Laser Sniper Rifle (complete with scope). It does slightly less overall damage but is very accurate and fast firing (even in VATS). Due to it's semi-plasma nature, it sets targets on fire as an added bonus. While initial damage isn't overpowering, it makes an excellent sniper weapon and the flames often finish off wounded foes for you. It is not intended to be a "Finger of God" type weapon but it is still effective enough to get the job done, especially in the hands of a skilled user.

Q: How did you make this?

A: It's simple, really. I pasted together some data from the basic laser rifle, the FOOK kit, slapped a scope to it and altered the ammo type to match that of the vanilla Rock-It Launcher. Presto!

Q: What's the catch?

A: I have not found a way to make it get more than one shot per item loaded, so you'll need a new piece of junk for every shot. However, one quick trip to the Super-Duper Mart should more than pay for itself as will most any building/subway crawl. Thus, you may never need another weapon so long as you're good at scavenging and Crazy Wolfgang will quickly become your new best friend. The good news is that, like the Rock-It Launcher, you can load as much junk as you want with just one pass through the interface, up to the 120 shot limit.

Q: Where do I get one?

A: Well it's not flagged as a unique item or anything, so in theory it could turn up anywhere. It may show up in a random gun locker, for sale by merchants or even in the hands of your enemies (now aren't you glad it's not an uberweapon?). 1.01 EDIT: It's no longer in Mr.Burke's house. It is now in the Vault-101 main entrance tunnel. See explaination below for details.

Q: How do I repair it?

A: It uses the laser rifle repair list, though with the FOOK system this list should be expanded to include the myriad of parts that are availble for fixing all types of laser rifles. With the Non-FOOK version, though, you'll have to either scavenge standard issue Laser Rifles or pay someone to fix it for you.

Q: Why the supersized ammunition/battery thing?

A: Because it beats carrying around fifty pounds of trash to keep recharging it every five minutes.

Q: How do I install this thing?

A: Just stick the ESP in your DATA folder like any other mod. Since it uses FOOK as it's base (FOOK rules!) there is no need for any other textures or models.

Q: How do I get rid of it?

A: Delete the ESP.

Q: Can I use this in my mod?

A: Go for it. The rifle data is located in Items\Weapons\2HandRifles\XExperimentalLaser. Feel free to copy it, tweek it, change it's stats or whatever you want. Make it a craftable item if you want.

1.01 Edit: I moved the freebie rifle location to the main entrance tunnel of Vault-101, laying next to a skeleton. This was because I forgot that Mr.Burke's house was a "Very Difficult" lock and there is no key for it. I recanted my assesment of getting in there from being "easy" to "stupid hard" and decided to make it more accessible to new players.

Note: The "Trouble on the Homefront" map for Vault-101 is different than the starting map, and the weapon will probably vanish from there once this quest becomes active. So grab it sooner rather than later.

Next Edit: Added a Non-FOOK version. Not as cool, but still fun to play with. Rifle is in the same location - the Vault-101 entrance tunnel.

And another: The flame effect in the Non-FOOK version may not be working. I'll look into it later.
