[q]The current "accepted" versions that work well together are the following: - Blender 2.49b, Python 2.6.5, Blender NIF Scripts 2.5.5, NifSkope 1.0.22, PyFFI 1.1.5 [/q]
Nifscripts currently work only on Blender 2.49b. The devs are trying to catch up, but for the moment that's it. The good news is that you can import the .nif into 2.49b and then export it as a .3ds file (Don't use .obj) and import it into the newest version, 2.72, of Blender. Once you've done your modding in 2.72, export the file as a .3ds, import it into 2.49b and export it as a .nif from there.
You can install 2.72 separately from 2.49b. There are numerous tutorials for the newer versions and most of the ones from version 2.6 on up will work for 2.72. Blender is easier to use and more capable from version 2.6 up for many of the things that modders find useful. As a long time Blender head, I would suggest using the 2.49b - 2,72 workflow.
Ok....that's good to know. I've copied and pasted your reply and saved it so I can remember what to do. I've also downloaded the newest version of Blender and will install it later. Thanks for the quick reply.
I hate bringing up old topics but I have a question which is quite simple. But first a little background. I became interested in Blender a couple of years ago because I wanted to learn to create some of my own stuff for Fallout 3. I downloaded everything required and installed it according to the directions and Lo and behold I ended up with working copies of Blender and Nifscope. I've recently bought a new computer and re-installed everything on it and as before it all works as it should. The only problem I was having was learning to use it. I know there are all kinds of tutorials out there but learning from a book has always worked better for me. So with that being said I bought a copy of Blender for Dummies and I'm starting to work my way through it. In the back of the book was a cd with copies of various programs designed to work with blender and a newer copy of Blender itself. The copy of Blender on the cd is Blender 2.56a. I currently have Blender 2.49b and Nifscripts 2-5-5 installed. I was wondering if Nifscripts 2-5-5 will work with the newer copy of Blender or will I also need a newer version of Nifscripts? And if I do are they available and where can I download them? And one last question...I haven't made any changes yet...not until I know if it will work or not but can I install the newer version over the older one or will I have to uninstall 2.49b first then install the newer version. Thanks
After hours of struggle and trying out different versions of everything... I came here, d'loaded everything, and .nif file support works out of the box.
