About this mod
Have you ever played through Tranquility Lane, disappointed by the lack of roleplaying options or relatability? Did you want a mod which added all of this and more while staying immersive? This mod series aims to fix Fallout 3's story (At least somewhat) while staying true to the original core design and lore of the game.

This mod series will add and remove things from the base game in order to improve the story and player experience, to add more roleplaying options and lore to the game. Wish there was some way to save the residents of Tranquility Lane without taking them out of their misery? Now you can give them full control of the simulation! Perhaps you want a pacifist playthrough that doesn't force you to either kill everyone virtually or actually, or maybe the quest is too time consuming? How about a way to release dad from the simulation without ever entering it!
Everything this mod does:
- The Overseers office can now be entered by hacking a “Hard Locked” terminal
- There is now a terminal inside the Overseer’s office which allows you to skip Tranquility Lane entirely, releasing dad from the simulation immediately
- You can use an Intelligence check to quickly bypass the Chinese failsafe puzzle inside the Abandoned House in Tranquility Lane
- Both the Overseer’s new terminal inside his office and the Chinese Invasion terminal now make a comment on how exactly the Failsafe would kill everyone, explaining why you, dad, and Dr. Braun don’t die or even get attacked.
- You can use a terminal inside the simulation to kill Dr. Braun.
- After this, you can either give simulation control to everyone, one person, or no one and kill all of them, with Karma given or taken for each choice.
- Leaving Dr. Braun inside the simulation alone will now net zero karma gain or loss, as there are now more moral options to take.
Everything this mod does NOT do:
- Make dad unessential and allow you to kill him (Plan on adding in a future, much bigger part of this series)
- Allow for a way to bypass the skill checks and still gain their benefits (I felt that the skill requirements should've been high as it's Dr. Braun, an insanely smart scientist. Plus, I wanted to not make it easy to get the best outcome.)
Updates:
- Added new ways to kill Dr. Braun if you've entered his room before finishing the Tranquility Lane quest
- Added dialogue (edited by yours truly) for dad, explaining that the Overseer killed Jonas and tried to kill you.
Made the Robobrains nonessential, but you are still able to progress the story as usual. (If the robobrain gets killed before you talk to it, the quest wont display but you can still progress all the same.)(Edit: I'm pretty sure I removed this later on bc it was inconvenient to script around you killing the robot, but I could be wrong. Still, New Vegas has immortal robots too, so it's cool.)- Edited a quest objective to imply that you are not forced to go into tranquility lane
- Fixed an issue where selecting the option to leave Dr. Braun’s visatron alone would result in xp and such being given to the player
- Made the overseer's terminal very hard, in order to make his password (In a different part of the vault) an actually viable option
- Fixed voice sync for Liam Neeson.
- Added a note explaining how Liam Neeson has survived the wasteland and why he’s wearing a vault 101 jumpsuit.
Changed Liam Neeson’s armor and weapons, giving him an armored vault 101 jumpsuit, a plasma pistol, and some grenades.- Changed my mind, he still uses the same armor, but he now uses a laser pistol and frag grenades.
- Added to that previously mentioned note, saying his armor broke recently.
- Fixed inventory issues, where the player would lose all items after hacking brauns terminal outside the simulation or keep weapons going into tranquility lane. (Sorry 🙏)
- Fixed an issue where Liam Neeson’s visatron would work as the same visatron as Dr. Braun's
- Removed a karma exploit
- (Hopefully) Fixed the disabled player controls after leaving the simulation.
"This mod series is not lore friendly, it changes what's canon!" There is a canon ending to Fallout 3 where you join the Brotherhood of Steel and activate the Purifier. However, there are also non-canon choices you can make, such as poisoning the water or destroying the Brotherhood. The mod series provides more roleplay options and enhances the story while staying true to the lore. Only non-canon parts have been changed to make more sense in the game world, keeping the canon intact as much as possible.
For example, it is not canon to blow up Megaton. Since your dad's reaction to this is not canon either, I have the liberty to change his dialogue, making him sound more disappointed and disgusted with you. This still makes sense within the game world.
Obviously, certain liberties must be taken when defining what is canon or not, like what the Lone Wanderer says in certain situations. But the roleplaying aspect of the game allows for wiggle room in this regard. The dialogue choices are a basic understanding of what your character said, and you can roleplay that the Lone Wanderer said exactly what the original dialogue said.
“What about things that add lore, like the extra Failsafe note that explains how the simulation kills people?” Since it is not canon for the Lone Wanderer to figure out this kind of behind-the-scenes lore, no matter what the extra lore may be, it will remain non-canon since it would never be verified as true from the canon story. However, I did my best to stay true to the lore when adding extra lore elements, making sure it doesn't conflict with the rest of the story.
Requirements:
- A character which has not yet gone through the Tranquility Lane questline, some changes are seen right before entering the simulation and others are during the simulation.
- Fallout 3 version 1.7.0.3 (It will probably work with the newest version, but I'm not sure.)
Installation: Either extract the folders contents and put them into your Data folder, or use your mod organizer of choice.
