What do I do if I for whatever reason do not have the files "Fallout," "FalloutPrefs," and "RenderInfo?" (Don't ask me why I don't have them, I just don't.)
I have an extremely low amount of RAM, but I can run Fallout 3 with Very High settings, but with a low resolution, no anti aliasing, and some very low draw distance settings. I want to increase my performance, so can I use this even though I have very little RAM? Thanks.
Just would like to know if it would work properly on my PC.
I'm running Fallout 3 with just 2GB and a 512mb nvidia 8500 that support shader 4.0 (but, since I dont use directX 10, it's useless). So, my question is: Will this mod still work?
Second Question: The launcher should not reset your settings by auto detecting, it eliminates some of the tweaks used in this ini, the reset is caused by your graphics card not being entered in the ini, change this line in falloutprefs.ini:
sD3DDevice= put your graphics card here
Just use a CTRL+F to rind and replace. For the proper name of your graphics card, refer to Renderinfo.txt located in the same folder as the ini's on your system.
You will have to use the launcher to then set the resolution and AA/AF you want for your system, but it shouldn't auto detect. Also, I'd lower the AF from 6x to 4x, there isn't a difference on the resolution you are using and the extra render time would probably be nice. Don't touch max decals or tree distance as the ini has already changed those to optimal settings. (Unless you want to of course) Last piece of advice i can give is to open the Nvidia Control Panel and manually adjust some 3D settings in the Advanced View. Two settings, Set the Display mode to Single Display Performance Mode and Texture filtering to Performance do NOT set to High Performance it will kill water reflections in Fallout 3.
Hey - just want to say thanks to the creator, I'm still not sure if I got his .ini set up right but it's great to have someone who's tried to improve these settings and will come back to answer some questions.
So, I copied and pasted all of the shader files into my shader folder and did replace all, since I found my shader package = 13. Is this all I have to do, or do I also have to do the manual instructions?
The other issue is - I did a direct copy/replace of the two .ini files also. But when I loaded the launcher again it said searching for video settings and then set up recommended settings for me. I then proceeded to set up my resolution and the advanced settings I used before. I didn't notice much difference in the game at all, except perhaps slightly smoother screens when I'm moving or turning outside. I'm still getting average FPS around 50 in the highest texture areas outside with dips to 35 at times.
Does this mean that, since the program went to search for my settings, that it actually just reset my .ini's? This would mean I'm actually not using your settings at all of course. Is there any way around this (I saw someone suggesting one earlier on, but I'm not sure if it works)?
My specs and settings as follows. I also made a thread on Hardforums about what I think are lousy numbers for my system, which I linked to below.
Resolution: 1360 x 768 [lower than the native 1920x1080 for my 16:9 monitor] AA: 2 samples AF: 6 samples I'm using mainly High advanced settings except for higher longer distance views: -Details high, water and shadows at medium, with lowered max decals/shadows -View Distance: Fades: Object 10/15, Actor 14/15, Grass 3/7, Specularity Fade 10/15, Light Fade 25/35, Item Fade 12/15, Shadow Fade 4/10 Distant LOD: Tree LOD Fade 20/40, Object Fade 48/50, Land quality 100
