Alton, IL - Alton Overhaul (unofficial add-on) - v1.0, 11/22/21
====================
***IMPORTANT WARNINGS - READ THIS!!!***

1. THIS MOD REQUIRES "ALTON IL - HUGE WORLD AND QUEST MOD" v2.0.3 BY ELIJAH HOUCK

2. This mod for Alton is unofficial and is not created or endorsed by Elijah Houck

3. This mod should be located after AltonAddon.esp in your load order.

4. This mod changes a lot of Alton's dialogue. Turn on subtitles. The SPOKEN VOICES will often NO LONGER MATCH THE WRITTEN DIALOGUE as a result. The original voice files can be moved or deleted to disable them.

5. This mod causes Alton to ONLY be playable AFTER you've finished most of Fallout 3. You need to progress to the point in Broken Steel where you can access the Presidential Metro. Without access to the Presidential Metro - and Adams Air Force Base - you can NOT access Alton.

***

This add-on mod for Alton, IL was created by DarknessSquall, with permission from Elijah Houck as per the description in his mod: "You are allowed and fully encouraged to make Alton itself your own playground. Want a house in Alton? Feel free to make it and share it with the community!".

Description
====================
This mod for Elijah Houck's "Alton, IL - New World and Quest mod" was originally made for my personal use. It includes a huge number of bug fixes that were not included in the final release of Alton. These bug fixes range from very minor to game breaking lockouts and crashes, and everything in between. It makes many alterations to the game's story and dialogue to change the narrative. These tweaks are based purely on my own opinion and preferences and may be seen as a huge upgrade or a massive downgrade from the default version of Alton.

If you have a bad memory tied to searching for someone's dog in Old Godfrey, this mod is for you.

WARNING: This mod WILL cause a mismatch between the voiced dialogue and the written dialogue. Turn on subtitles. See the Bugs section for instructions on how to disable Alton's voices.

WARNING 2: this mod makes Alton start in Adams Air Force Base rather than Rivet City, so you will need to complete the main Fallout 3 quest and progress to the point in Broken Steel where you can access the Presidential Metro.

Technical Description
====================
It was very difficult and time-consuming to make this mod, because Alton.esm has a required bug fix add-on, AltonAddon.esp. As a result, I was forced to build my mod on top of AltonAddon.esp, then use FO3Edit to clean my mod of all redundancy and work that was not mine. All of the modifications found in AltonOverhaul.esp are, or should be, my own work, and this can be verified by comparing the files in FO3Edit.

AltonOverhaul.esp should be loaded after AltonAddon.esp in your load order. Any conflict between these two files is intentional (it means they're both trying to modify Alton.esm) and thus, AltonOverhaul should be loaded last.

Turn on subtitles. This mod will cause a mismatch between the default voices and the written text of many Alton NPCs. You can disable Voices by deleting or moving the Alton voice files if this bothers you.

As for what exactly this mod does: it's too much to list here. All changes have been written and documented in a seperate file, "Readme - Alton Overhaul Changelog.txt" which is included with this mod's distribution .zip file.

Why I made this
====================
Alton, IL. The closest thing to a sixth expansion pack that Fallout 3 has ever seen, and likely ever will. Version 2.0.3 came out October 2013.  Elijah Houck stated that this would be "the last update" for Alton.

Unfortunately, there were still a significant number of bugs and issues present. I felt like Alton was so close to being the equal of, or surpassing, the official Bethesda DLCs, but these bugs made it fall short.

As I set out to fix the bugs, I started making other tweaks and improvements of my own, to fit my own vision of what would improve the mod's environment, gameplay, story, etc...this is all based purely on my own opinion and preference. I never intended to release this mod, as I built it for my own personal use and its release was not approved by Elijah Houck.

Elijah says in Alton's description "You are allowed and fully encouraged to make Alton itself your own playground. Want a house in Alton? Feel free to make it and share it with the community!", so it's my understanding that this mod is made with permission, as it is an add-on to Alton that I created that requires Alton to work, and not a redistribution of any of Elijah's assets. I'm hoping that this mod gives long-time fans of Alton another reason to replay the mod.

Installation
====================
FIRST, you MUST install Alton IL - Huge World & Quest Mod by Elijah Houck and his official patch, AltonAddon.esp.

SECOND: This mod changes a lot of dialogue text. Turn on subtitles to read it. The original voices will often no longer match the written dialogue. If you want to disable voices, move (or backup and delete) Alton's voice folders: "Alton, IL" and "AltonAddon.esp", located under Fallout 3\Sound\Voice\.

Extract the .esp to your Fallout 3\Data folder. Activate the .esp through your game launcher or mod manager.

Requirements
====================
Alton, IL - Huge World and Quest Mod - With most recent patch, v2.0.3
Fallout 3 and all 5 DLCs (Anchorage, Pitt, Point Lookout, Broken Steel, Zeta)

====================
Bugs/Incompatibilities
====================
There are a number of known redundancies and overlaps with AltonAddon.esp, because this mod was built using AltonAddon.esp as a base to try to avoid conflicts. This mod may conflict with other Alton mods.

The original voices will often no longer match the written dialogue due to the changes I implemented. If you want to disable voices, move (or backup and delete) Alton's voice folders: "Alton, IL" and "AltonAddon.esp", located under Fallout 3\Sound\Voice\.
