Changelogs
Are you tired of those annoying pop-up ads announcing the DLC to you?
Are you sick of getting quests the second you step outside of the vault?
Well then you need an
AdBlocker!

This mod is simple, it removes the annoying pop-up messages from the DLC and prevents their quests from starting until the player has interacted with them. In the case of The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage the player will receive their radio broadcasts while exploring the wasteland near their location, and the broadcasts can be listened to in order to start the quests, as for Mothership Zeta and Point Lookout these quests will start when you encounter their starting points in the world requiring a bit of exploration to find them. And of course Broken Steel will no longer tell you that you can reach level 30 (though you of course still can). This way all the DLC quests require some interaction from the player to start and they also become rewards for diligent exploration.

Q: Why would I use this instead of DelayDLC or Pop-Up Blocker?
A: I really like both of those files and have used them both for various playthroughs, however both files are guilty of having dirty edits (something that seems easy to accidentally get in any file editing the DLC without careful editing in FO3Edit) and are a little outdated. This mod has been made extremely clean and small with only a few changes being made to the scripts that start the DLCs, the starting Quests for the DLCs, and one Dialogue Topic, and has no dirty edits. Everything is done through scripting or quest changes both of which are very self contained and unlikely to cause conflicts. Also where necessary this mod has used the Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch as a base for it's changes meaning it's fully compatible with it. Finally this is a single ESP file with all the DLCs covered instead of how those mods handled it with an ESP for each DLC (if there is demand I may offer a divided up version later).

Q: Why would I use this instead of Refurbish DLC?
A: This mod has recently been brought to my attention and I like the concept a lot though have never used it. I'd suggest my mod if you're looking for something very light and script driven for minimal conflicts.

Q: How exactly does the DLC trigger?
A: With the new version the radio signals for The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage now activate when you enter a specific area on the map near the regions where the quests are, listen to the message and you will get the quest, or you can also just proceed to where the quests start and they will start automatically. For The Pitt the radio will activate anywhere northwest of Germantown, for Operation Anchorage the radio will activate anywhere southeast of Fort Independence. Mothership Zeta is still located at the crashed anomaly, you will receive the radio signal as you get near (just like you would in vanilla Fallout 3 before the DLC was added) and after you're beamed up and either agree to or refuse Tomah's escape plan the quest will start. Point Lookout's quest will start after you find the riverboat landing and are approached by Catherine and asked to find her daughter.

Q: You put out an update but I already started a game, should I update to the new version?
I wouldn't suggest it, It may be fine but I haven't put out a version yet that should break your game so you're okay to just keep playing with the version you have and update on the next game, I'd suggest that just to be safe. Also never update from version 1.0 to 2.0 or higher mid-play, 2.0 introduces new variables and they could do harmless but glitchy things such as turning back on the quest radio signals.

Minus Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch:
For people who don't want to use Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch I have uploaded an optional file without any of UF3P's changes, just download the "DLC AdBlocker -UF3P" file (you don't need the main file). Any version should be stable and fine to use.

Requirements:
This mod requires all the official DLC.

Installation Instructions:
Just drop in the data folder and tick the esp, or use any mod manager you feel comfortable with. Make sure this file is lower in the load order than the Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.

Conflicts and Patches:
This mod will conflict with anything that changes the scripts that start the DLCs, the starting quests for the DLCs, and the dialogue topic that ends The Pitt radio transmission. Easy way to tell is to open up FO3Edit with your whole load order loaded up and then expand my mod and look at each entry to see if any files are being overwritten. Most of this mods changes are script based so you probably won't be able to fix incompatibilities in FO3Edit, if you run in to an issue that isn't an easy fix leave a comment or send me a message and I'll make a patch if it can be done. All of that said this mod changes very little so there should be few conflicts.

Changelog:
V2.1
  • Fixed "bug" where Wernher wouldn't talk to you until you listened to his radio broadcast, made it so now the quest also activates as you enter his proximity so you can ignore the radio if you want. Also did some polishing and removing of unneeded elements.
V2.0
  • Changed quest scripts for DLC01 and DLC02 so the radio signals now activate once the player has crossed an x and y position on the wasteland map.

Permissions and Thanks:
I give full permission to use this mod in other works. I'd like some kind of note of where it came from, but even that isn't required. Use the mod however you want with my blessing. The only thing I don't want is for this mod to be reuploaded without any changes unless for some reason my official releases are no longer available.

Thanks to kailieann for Fallout 3 Pop-Up Blockers which was the main inspiration for this file. Thanks to everyone who worked on the Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch. Most of all thanks to Bethesda for entertaining me for so many hundreds of hours.
