Hey, would it be a good idea to implement this with Rescue From Paradise? Escort the three little kids to Little Lamplight.

No need, you can just follow the kids and escort them without the need to create a mod. Just go back with them and make sure nothing happens to them ;)

Excellent idea, well thought out. It did strike me as odd that if the player-character cares enough to help Bryan out in the first place, then they'll be unlikely to send him on his way into hostile territory to the ostensible care of some purported relative. It makes far more narrative sense that if you choose to get involved, you will have to take some responsibility for the consequences of your actions, meaning you're stuck with him, at least for a while. Now I'm avoiding him like the plague whenever I see him near the Super-Duper Mart, as I don't want to have to babysit him all the way to Rivet City just yet.

Hey Tulimak, thank you for your kind words! I am glad you enjoyed the mod. But you don't need to avoid him! You can just tell him to wait at his home until you are ready to take him to Rivet City or any of the other locations! Hehe. And yeah, the way this quest was handled in vanilla was clumsy to say the least. But that's where modders come in ;)

      Cheers,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah I do that too, its like Ugh no , not yet, bryan , I'm not ready for you,But at the same time when I was , I'd like to see somethinglike being an adoptive mum to him and give him a new sedt of clothes upon agreement with him...
      Going to download this regardless..

Hehe. Cheers. Poor Bryan. Yeah, the problem I see with adopting him is the dynamic with the player would be very superficial. Bryan has no extra dialogue or depth as a character so this won't be like God of War or The Last of Us. Simply put, Fallout is not that kind of story so maybe it's better to make a bee-line to Rivet city and give Bryan a happy ending with his Aunt or... sell him to slavers if you are feeling evil ;)

Excellent idea for a mod. I like the well thought out ways your mods combine clearly with the main game like it was simply meant to be there.

    Good job!

    Endorsed.

Nice idea. I do have a bit of a feedback in terms of logic.
I was testing the possibilities by giving him the collar to sell him to Eulogy. I honestly told him that I sold him to the slavers, so he told me I was a scumbag. But after talking to him again, he told me "I've heard about you: you're one of the good guys!"... which is quite illogical in that case.
Not sure if you want to do something about it but I thought I might as well inform you of that fact.

Hello Sylom, Bryan said that because your character had good karma and even if you did a very evil thing XD his second line was conditioned to trigger in response to your karma, not to the specific action of selling him.

And I agree, it sounds illogical. This is probably a rare occurrence since if you are roleplaying an evil character, you are probably going to reach evil karma before you meet Bryan so most players won't even notice this ever. But I'll see if I can condition that line to only trigger if you don't sell him to slavers, basically. XD. Thanks for heads up ;)

I really like the idea of this mod, as I felt it was Bryan W. was left, shallow and empty.

I like that you gave two options .... but maybe ponder a 3rd: The Lone Wanderer adopts B.W. Why not? The L.W. either lives in Megaton or Tenpenny, of which both would be very good places for B.W.

    Anyways, just a thought.

My next play through, I will gives this mod a download and play.

Thanks for taking the time to create this! :)

You're welcome! Thank you for the compliments, jjb54 :)

Regarding the player being able to adopt Bryan... I thought about it. The problem is I think it would feel very shallow since there is no new dialogue to deepen your relationship with Bryan. He would simply roam around your house and repeat his old lines which wouldn't make much sense. Also, adopting somebody should be huge so this character should become central to the Lone Wanderer's story the way I see it. The LW simply doesn't have the time for that with all the "trying to find Dad and saving the Wasteland" thingy ;)

So basically adding that option would imply expanding Bryan's character greatly and also recasting him to accommodate the new lines. Not saying it's not possible but as of right now, it seems unlikely.

@vegaswanderer - I am not entirely sure but there might be more voice assets for Bryan Wilks using the other children's voice assets possibly. I cannot remember what child it was but there is another child that has the same voice actor for Bryan Wilks I believe. That could always work too!

Really nice idea for a mod. I used to play with the one that let you have him as a companion, but I always had such a hard time handing him over to someone else eventually.

This is definitely the best of both worlds, get the immersion of traveling with him but I won't become too attached that I'm dragging a kid through multiple war zones

Thank you, pwinkle. I checked the companion mod you mentioned years ago but I felt taking care of a child should be central to the plot, kinda like it is in "The Last of Us" and since you can't do that without committing a huge amount of work to the mod and recasting Bryan to make him a companion with tons and tons of dialogue and comments for all the quests I decided that mod wasn't for me.

I think it also distracts the player from his / her objective or finding James and saving the Wasteland. That's why I decided to make this mod. I felt it was weird and immersion breaking how in vanilla F3 you just send a kid alone on his own across the Wasteland and since I like to roleplay my characters, it got me out of the experience, hence this mod.. ;)

This weekend I'll upload a new version fixing the problem at LL and also the option that was mentioned in the comments for evil characters ;)

I don't remember quite well, but that scientist who lives underneath the town of Grayditch can look after Bryan if you convince him. But these alternative options are always appreciated!

Taking Bryan to Little Lamplight is a deceitful option to get him killed in the future (or worse). Little Lamplight has a darker secret and it has to do with Super Mutants. You see, Super Mutants are using Little Lamplight as a breeding ground to make more of them. The kids are sent to Big Town when they are older and stronger to survive FEV transformation. Mutants kidnap them from Big Town and this never ending cycle continues...

Rivet City is the best option for him I'm afraid.

Doctor Lesko is never an option for Bryan. In fact, when the LW tells him he / she is looking for a home for Bryan, hinting at Lesko taking care of him, he mentions he is too busy to take care of children. He only supports finding a home for Bryan because he doesn't want to be pestered by the little fella any more. Believe me, I've looked on the files. There is no way for Bryan to stay with Chesko. Bryan can be left alone in Grayditch which is not the same thing.

Regarding your theory, I think it's a popular explanation as of why the children in LL are still alive. It is one of the most logical conclusions, we, as players, can arrive to and... I've been working on a mod for quite a while that deals with this very fact so... stay tuned ;)

Vegaswanderer, I am seriously greatful for all of your mods. You are still putting out some of the best material for Fallout 3 in 2018.

I just hope the mode will convert nicely for TTW.

Thank you for your praise and compliments. The community here is definitely the best part of modding ;)

It shouldn't be difficult to convert the mod to TTW, I think.

      Cheers!

Good idea, this mod is! Although, I'd disagree with the statement that, as a bastard, I would escort the poor chap's sorry arse to Paradise Falls.. Think of his reaction when he sees all the slavers and notices of his future... Oh the joy of tasty child tears!
Also, Eulogy says, kids have high price, so what businessman/woman would risk their assets?
