If you are running an OS later than 7 you will almost certainly have issues installing FO3 from Disc. GOG has ripped anything that has anything to do with DRM out of their releases and Steam just recently applied a fix from Bethesda that patches GFWL out of the game. GOG is the way to go but if you paid for one of The premium Disc versions of The game (which were pricey) you might want to try and install it from disc before shelling out more money for another version. This file fixes the biggest issue with installing FO3 on Win8, Win 8.1 and Win10. There can be other sticking points, but you wont get anywhere without this file.
This was frustrastingly unhelpful. There's no .dII file, there's no FOSE.exe, none of what you described. Just multiple notepads of gibberish. Really starting to think that Fallout 3 is simply unplayable without Windows Live...which is currently dead in the water.
Hey! Have you had luck? I had to do a bit of troubleshooting but I was able to get the file from this to work. Are you extracting with 7zip? FOSE is a separate entity you would download externally to run with mods (Fallout Script Extender) If you need help let me know!
Did you bother to do what was told? Did you actually download this mod to get the xlive.dll file to put in your folder? Did you download the Fallout script extender as told? Do those and you have those files, simple as that. fose_loader.exe is the launcher
Worked well! I had to do a clean install after hours of troubleshooting and trying other workflows. Got it running without FOSE but I can see myself running FOSE in the future
Thanks, Man, you're a life saver! I plopped it in and it works! I have no idea what these other folks are talking about when they say it doesn't work or it doesn't include what you said. You just download the .DLL file and plop it into your game. Easy as can be.
