About this mod

Offers a seamless alternative to the vanilla repair system, allowing you to repair any weapon (even modded ones) at a workbench using miscellaneous items and parts that you strip from similar weapons. Requires FOSE, compatible with FWE and WMK!

I. Introduction
If you're anything like me, you've probably noticed how the existing repair system leaves something to be desired. Flipping up your Pip-Boy to repair your Chinese Assault Rifle in the middle of combat contributes little to immersion of the game... and also makes the workbench seem more useless than it already is. With this mod installed, you now have to make the extra effort if you're really dead-set on repairing every weapon you find.

II. Features
1. "Repair Weapon" option at crafting table
Allows you to repair your equipped weapon by adding repair components to the workbench "container." Your repair skill is still taken into account if you do this, making your repairs more or less effective based on how high it is. Different components also offer better results based on the weapon you are repairing, and not all components will contribute to the overall condition of your weapon after you perform the repair. The algorithm categorizes weapons by Melee Weapons, Firearms, and Energy Weapons, allowing you to repair weapons that are from other mods without having to edit or create repair lists.

2. "Dismantle for Parts" option at crafting table
Requires the Gun Nut perk, allows you to break down certain weapons to get either Weapons Parts (10mm submachine guns, hunting rifles, combat shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and miniguns) or Advanced Weapon Parts (laser rifles and plasma rifles). Although they aren't quite as effective as using the actual weapon in the repair menu, weapon parts can be used to repair unique weapons of the same tier. Melee weapons can't be broken down, but it's a bit easier to repair them overall.

III. Components
These components apply to all weapons that fall under these categories, including unique weapons and modded weapons. However, unique weapons and modded weapons cannot be repaired using other weapons and require either random parts (like scrap metal) or the broken down version of those weapons (weapon parts and advanced weapon parts) to repair them.

1. Melee Weapons (also including unarmed weapons) - Whet Stone, Hammer, Scrap Metal, Wonderglue, and the same weapon as the one being repaired
2. Firearms (small and big guns) - Abraxo Cleaner, Bent Tin Can, Tin Can, Scrap Metal, Wrench, Weapon Parts, and the same weapon as the one being repaired
3. Energy Weapons - Fission Battery, Sensor Module, Scrap Metal, Wrench, Advanced Weapon Parts, and the same weapon as the one being repaired

IV. How to Install
1. Download FOSE and extract the contents to your Fallout 3 Directory (Program Files > Bethesda Softworks > Fallout 3)
2. Download Fallout Mod Manager or initialize FOSE within the Nexus Mod Manager
3. Download this mod
4. BACK UP "Inventory_Menu.xml" from the Data/Menu/Main folder (thanks to Celticgirl) in case of U.I. issues
5. Extract the contents of the mod the Data folder within your Fallout 3 Directory
6. Checkmark this mod in the mod index, and you're ready to go

NOTE: If you'd still like to be able to repair weapons normally through the pip-boy, DO NOT extract the "Menu" folder out of the .zip file for this mod.

V. Bugs and Compatibility (UPDATED 6/17/14)
The only major incompatibility is CRAFT, which changes the workbench activation menu from a menu to a dialogue. WMK and FWE are both compatible, as is Haldur's Improved Workbenches. If you have mods that change the repair components listed above, make sure you load them BEFORE this mod in your load order. Also, if you have mods that add weapon crafting recipes into the game, load them AFTER this mod. Finally, make sure not to accidentally input your equipped weapon into the Repair Components during the repair, or it'll be destroyed in the process.

For WMK, make sure that you load this mod AFTER WMK. When you activate a workbench, press the "Activate" option in the menu and the repair functionality will pop up. For those of you who are having problems with WMK, here's a video showcasing the mods used together.

FOR ANYONE HAVING U.I. ISSUES, please be aware that the file "Inventory_Menu.xml" is made to remove the "Repair" option from the Pip-Boy entirely. If you have U.I. issues, remove that file and replace the old version, originally found in the "Data" folder when you first installed the game.

I'd personally recommend using this with Purified Water With Lab by Verganon and Workbench Retextured by konji.
