INTRODUCTION
“A simple, yet stylish outfit composed of salvaged materials. It offers moderate protection, though the idea of wearing bright orange in the Wasteland seems questionable.”

The Wasteland Opportunist Armor is a lightweight armor and not suitable for open combat situations. Its purpose is to aid scavengers in their trade, and to keep the wearer alive long enough to reach cover if caught out in the open. The two main components of the outfit are the Body Armor and the Headgear. Each will be presented in detail below.

Body Armor
The armor consists of a sleeveless jumpsuit, a padded vest, a number of small bags, a multitool, military issue boots and fingerless gloves covering the wrists. It weighs 8 lbs and has Armor Class 24. The various bags and pockets allows an increased +30 Carry Weight, and the included multitool aids the user's ability to +10 Repair and maintain equipment.
Valued 300 caps at full condition.

Headgear
The headgear consists of protective goggles and a short-range communication device with a built-in area scanner. It weighs 2 lbs and has Armor Class 2. The short-range scanner aids the user's +1 Perception, allowing them to pick up threats earlier and increasing their reaction time by +15 Action Points.
Valued 100 caps at full condition.

LOCATION
“Nearby, relatively speaking. On the cosmological scale, it's all nearby.”

The outfit, along with a few other goodies, has been distributed to three Supply Footlockers in the Capital Wasteland, which can be found at the following locations:

Springvale Elementary School
The Supply Footlocker is located next to a dumpster on the North side of the building.

Big Town Junkyard
The Supply Footlocker is half-buried in a pile of junk and debris.

Grayditch Diner
The Supply Footlocker is hidden behind a bush next to the dumpster behind the diner.

REQUIREMENTS
“Ah, the Codex. If it's in there, we have to abide it, if it's not, it's not important.”

A computer – preferably one that meets the minimum requirements for the game.
A legal copy of Fallout 3, patched to the latest version – yes, really.
Half a brain – a whole brain is recommended, but not necessary.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
“You don't have to like it, you just have to follow orders.”

In the mod archive you will find two folders – [Data] and [Optional Opportunities].
To install the mod, simply copy the [Data] folder to your Fallout 3 installation directory. For example, my installation directory is: C:/Program Files (x86)/Bethesda Softworks/Fallout 3/

If you want to use any of the optional files, open the folder [Optional Opportunities].
At the moment, there are three optional files for replacing the headgear –
[Earpiece Left Side], which puts the earpiece on the left side of the head,
[Earpiece Original Texture Paths], which makes the earpiece use the original T-51b texture path and is recommended if you use Bornagain T-51b by CaBaL120, and lastly
[Earpiece Original Texture Paths Left Side], which does both of the above.
To use the optional files, copy the contents of one of these folders to your Fallout 3 Data directory, which for me is: C:/Program Files (x86)/Bethesda Softworks/Fallout 3/Data/

Manual installation is recommended. Theoretically you should be able to use Nexus Mod Manager, but I haven't tried it myself. Remember to tick the Opportunist Armor.esp in Data Files or your preferred mod manager.

UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
“I find your lack of faith... disturbing.”

Remove all files added by this mod. Simple, right?

KNOWN ISSUES
“Nobody is perfect.”

There is some minor clipping on both the male and female models, though I haven't been successful in resolving this in a way that doesn't deform the model itself. You're unlikely to notice anything when playing the game normally, so I decided to leave it at that. Also, there is no support for dismemberment, so do try to avoid getting blown to bits.
One important thing to note is that I've been playing with New Vegas and WAR animations, so let me know if any major clipping occurs without those.

Notes on Compatibility
The armor is made to fit the vanilla body. If you use any body replacers there will likely be strange texture displacements on the arms. Also, the models use the original texture paths (with the exception of the earpiece), so they will be affected by any texture replacements you may be using. Should be compatible with pretty much anything else.

FAQ (Frequently Anticipated Questions)
“How much weight can a person with a Strength of six carry assuming he has the Strong Back perk?”

Q: How do I get the armor?
A: Follow the directions given above, under the LOCATION section. Alternatively, use the following Item IDs with the player.additem console command.
XX000EAC for the armor, and
XX000EAE for the headgear.
Replace the XX with the number Opportunist Armor.esp has in your Load Order.

Q: Okay, so I got it, but it's damaged! What do I use to repair it?
A: The armor and headgear are both repairable with other copies of themselves, naturally, as well as scrap metal. Additionally, the armor can be repaired with any variation of Merc apparel, and the headgear can be repaired with other Wasteland headgear, like Biker Goggles or Motorcycle Helmets.

Q: Any chance of a [Insert body mod of choice here] version?
A: You are welcome to do it yourself.

Q: Can I make a request?
A: No.

Q: I like it, but there's just one little thing that could be better, could you-
A: No. Go away.

CREDITS
“If a statement gets put in quotation marks, whoever made it was probably right.”

My gratitude goes out to:
Bethesda Softworks – for providing the game along with all original meshes and textures.
BumNanner – for coming up with a better name than I could.
Mom – for always believing in me.
ZOÉGAs – for the coffee. Couldn't have done it without you.
Torbjörn Nilsson – just because.

Notes on Permission
It's a free Wasteland. As far as I'm concerned you can use the contents of this mod as you like, just ask first if you're going to release it in a mod of your own. And keep in mind that Bethesda owns the original models and textures. Always remember to give credit where credit's due.

AUTHOR'S COMMENTS
“When everything is said and done, more is said than done.”

This is not professional work. I'm an amateur, and everything I know about modelling, texturing and the GECK I've learned on my own through trial-and-error. I have no desire to learn more about modding than I need in order to do what I want, and I always mod with myself and my own preferences in mind. I welcome opinions on my work, but don't expect them to change my mind.

Everything provided by this mod is to be used at your own risk. I take no responsibility for any loss of private or public property, data, brain cells, internal organs, extremities (including other external body parts), virginity, family members or other individuals following the use of this mod. You have been warned.
Enjoy.
