About this mod

Adds decorative items to the wasteland, including dog food, sewing kit, towels, shampoo, boxes of soap, washing rags, toilet paper, and more. Also includes a retextured framed Revelation quote and a static doily.

Permissions and credits

Something that has been bothering me for a while is the fact that were are so few "daily life" items around the wasteland. For instance, no personal hygiene supplies anywhere! So, if I make a house with a bathtub and everything, there is no shampoo or soap to put on shelves nearby. How do you wash up around the Capital Wasteland? So, I took the time to make some retextures and put together some simple decorative items to place around your home and make it seem a bit more lived-in.

This mod requires no DLC, only the base game.

In order to avoid problems with other mods, these are not added to the leveled lists; rather, you'll find them around the wasteland, in respawning containers or out in the open. Alternatively, if you simply cannot wait to get your hands on these, you can pick them all up at a new cell I assembled for testing purposes. To enter, open the console and type ''coc aaaFramedQuoteCell'' without quotes. Once you are done, open the console again and type ''coc Vault101Exterior'' to return to the wastelands.

I left a note in the testing cell with the latest update (v7) that has instructions on how to get in and out, as well as a list of the items added and their locations. Hopefully that will make it a bit easier for the intrepid explorer to go looking for them. Also, with the latest update (v9) I placed some of my items (the framed quote, SPECIAL book, and a couple of others) in your room in Vault 101 when you start Escape!. Feel free to grab them all before you leave!

Being decorative, these don't really do anything and my knowledge isn't really enough to make it any other way. But I upped the prices as an afterthought, so at least you can sell them for some good caps. If you want to use these in your mods, feel free to do so - just make sure to credit me and the source of the materials I used.

Here are the objects I have made so far:

- Hygiene Supplies:
A bottle of shampoo, a boxed bar of soap and a washing rag. You will find a stash of them in a respawning metal box located in an unmarked camp by a radioactive pond, between MDPL-13 Power Station and Vault 92, really close to the location of the alien crash site. Follow the road, and you'll see it. If you are using More Map Markers by Xyx, the location will have a marker named 'Watering Hole'.

- Box of Dog Food:
A simple box of dog food for your pal Dogmeat, which can be found in the Scrapyard, in a metal box behind the shack near the south facing entrance.

- Sewing Kit:
A nice sewing kit, based on the lunchbox mesh, since that's one of my hobbies in real life. They are placed in a toolbox inside Lady Frumperton's Fashions.

- Hitchkiker's Guide to Washington, D.C.:
A requested book for you to put on a shelf somewhere. You can find it in Early Dawn Elementary, on top of a desk. Something strange about the cover is that it appears mirrored vertically, but that shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't display it standing up. I'm quite confident it's not possible, anyway.

- Nuka-Cola Paperweight:
Just something fun I thought of. It's shaped like a mini-nuke, so getting it to stand upright may be a bit tricky. You can find it in the Office Building, upper floor, on top of a desk by a terminal.

- Towels:
A request, which I figure ties in nicely with the shampoo and soap that started it all, with some cheerful colors. These are located in the Office Building as well, on a locker in the basement, in a restroom.

- Framed Revelation Quote:
This is a retexture of the framed Revelation quote you see at the beginning of the game to make it look more like embroidery work. And, in order to make the retexture work a bit more worthwhile, I made a tabletop version that you can pick up and place around your home as a nice memento. Since this could be kind of not lore-friendly, you can only find it in the new cell I made. Of course, if you don't like the retexture, just navigate to 'Data\textures\clutter' and delete 'framedquote01.dds'.

- Knitting Set:
This is my latest hobby, so I decided to include it too. It's a boxed starter kit that comes with needles, yarn and booklet. You can find it in the Statesman Hotel Mid Level, second floor, on a table next to a TV and a dead Super Mutant. You can also find one in Lady Frumperton's Fashions, under the desk.

- Toilet Paper:
I had been thinking about making these for a long time, and I finally decided to try. The original mesh I used was a bit small, so I tried to resize it with Nifskope. Don't be surprised if my efforts are kind of wonky! You can find them in the Statesman Hotel Mid Level, second floor, in a cabinet in a bathroom, around the corner from the knitting set.

- Toothpaste:
For minty breath! I guess after 200 years these would still be useable... I wanted to make a toothbrush too, but since that would be way too complicated for me, the toothpaste comes boxed with a free folding toothbrush instead. Your choice of color! You'll find them in the Statesman Hotel Mid Level, in the same location as the toilet paper.

- Personal Care Set:
I wanted to make something like a hairbrush, but since that is way out of my league, here you can have a nice, boxed, limited edition personal care set! It comes with a wooden brush, body lotion, stainless razor, hair net, tweezers and nail clipper. You can find it in Underworld, under Snowflake's work table. It is marked as belonging to the player, so taking it won't count as stealing.

- Tabletop Mirror:
I have noticed all mirrors in the game seem to be broken, but I figure at least one must have made it, right? So here's a tabletop mirror so you can admire yourself. You will find it in Underworld as well, next to the personal care set.

- You're SPECIAL!:
A copy of the book you use at the very beginning of the game to set your skills. Again, decorative only! Perhaps you treasured it enough you kept it safe all these years. Just as I did with the framed quote, I have left a copy in the testing cell only, since I guess it could sort of be not lore-friendly.

- Leather and Metal Polish:
To keep your armor nice and shiny! I left these in the Corvega Factory main floor, with all the nice giant ants. You will find them inside some metal boxes; you'll see them through the window as soon as you enter, next to one of the metal beams.

- Rubik Cube:
I've wanted to have one of these in the game for a long time, but since they were created in the 70's it made no sense. Still, I finally decided to just make one today with a custom normal map, and leave it in the testing cell only, for other people who may want one too. Have fun!

- "Computers for Everybody" Book:
I found this book today while surfing the internet and I KNEW I needed to include it! It is kind of off the timeline, having been published in 1981, but the computer is just the same as the terminals in the game. Still, being a bit too recent, you will only be able to find a copy in the testing cell.

- Static doily:
I am a terrible person and love doilies, even if they're really tacky for some. So, I made one quickly today. I was hoping to make it something you can drop and such, but the model I went with seems to have no collision, so it isn't possible. Therefore, the doily is meshes and textures only, and you'll have to add it to your mod manually if you want to use it. This tutorial is the one I used to learn myself - look for "Adding your object to Geck" and read from there. It's really easy :)

- Chocolate box:
I am a huge Milka fan, so I figured I could make some chocolates for the Lone Wanderer. You can find a couple of boxes in Mama Dolce's Processed Foods , on top of a desk as you enter. They have a nice price too, in case you may want to sell them to the ladies. A weird issue I had while testing was that they would turn invisible when dropped, but saving, exiting and starting the game again fixed it for me. I have no idea of what could be causing it, as I'm using a vanilla mesh.

I may expand on this file and add some other random items I think of, so if you have any ideas, please let me know!

To install, extract the contents of your downloaded file to your 'Steam\SteamApps\Common\Fallout 3\Data' folder. Then activate the mod through your preferred launcher by ticking the checkbox next to the esp.
