For anyone having trouble with the quest not starting, here is a checklist of things to look at.

Mods that change the Trouble on the Homefront quest can interfere with this mod.  Check that you haven't installed anything that does.

Be sure that you've met ALL quest requirements, such as completing Trouble on the Homefront peacefully (not sabotaging the vault or killing Amata).

If you're in Megaton, be sure that you're waiting outside, such as by the bomb (not in a building).

Also, if you're in Megaton it must be the original Megaton (some overhaul mods replace Megaton with a revamped copy, meaning that you could be in the copy while the messenger is waiting for you in the original).

If you satisfied all the requirements and the quest still isn't starting, as a last resort you can try to start the quest manually by opening the console (press the tilde ~ key) and entering:

    SetStage xx00154D 5

(xx is the mod load index, such as 01 if it loads right after Fallout3.esm.

It was interesting right up until I found the Enclave base in the A Friend in Need quest. At which point cutscene incompetence strikes and you're forced into yet another capture scene. I didn't like that in the main quest - how, exactly, was that stun grenade supposed to do anything to me through a full set of power armour?

I liked it even less in The Pitt - now clad head to toe in Tesla armour and with a gatling laser on my back, I could single-handledly butcher the entire town. But no, you just stand there dumbly and let four diseased half-dead raiders slap you with sticks instead of cutting them all down like the animals they are.

And it's just as bad here, where you mutely sit there and get captured again. Yeah, not happening. I uninstalled the mod right there and then. The quest and concept is nice, but this? That's too much for me.

Although many players have enjoyed the mod over the years, it won't appeal to everyone (and that's all right).  The plot technique that you referred to is a fairly common one, used here (trying to avoid spoilers for other readers) for the purpose of leveling the field for all players, for a specific setting, by temporarily separating the protagonist from potentially god-level gear that by design isn't needed.

For many, the setting and encounters present an interesting challenge, particularly for those who might have become jaded by the near invincibility conferred by high-end equipment, shifting the focus away from gear to the human and the player's resourcefulness.  Again, it's understandable that some players won't care for this, but the story's design choices are intentional; they came about after careful consideration.  There are different play styles, and we just disagree here.  That's okay.

I finished the mod and really enjoyed it. Thanks for making it!

My only problem I couldn't solve was with "A Friend in Need." I had similar CTD problem others have had near the Enclave base. I received the message box to not attack the Enclave. Then, if I pull up the Pip-Boy (got a blank map), press ESC (to save or load), or try to activate the intercom, the game crashes. Quicksave (F5) worked ok, so I resorted to that. I had V1.05, Alice is with me, removed all other mods, and still the problem persisted. I just avoided using VATS, which made it more of a challenge. All I did was unlock the gate by the intercom so I could walk through to get captured. The problem also occurred when I escaped to the outside. If I tried to talk to Alice or Amata, it still crashed. After the base is destroyed and some time has passed, all is normal again.

    Love this mod

I had trouble getting the mod started i had to use the below setstage cheat to get it working. once working i loved it, it felt like this should be in the base game, i dont think i will play without it again.

Was in Megaton some time after retaking the Purifier, Susie came up, gave me a quick empty dialogue box, and left. Quest didn't start or anything. Worked only after manually initializing it

The no dialog situation will happen if you're not outside in Megaton when Susie greets you.  As the mod page says, "you must be inside the city but not in a building, by the bomb is a good place".  Manually starting the quest will work, but you missed some conversation with Susie by using the last resort to force-start the quest.

Hmm, being inside is the usual cause.  The other is mods that replace or greatly overhaul Megaton so that the location ID is different.  The dialog depends on that ID, because there's a different variation for Tenpenny.

I am using one Megaton changing mod (Megaton House and theme Overhaul) which might be the cause. It's also entirely possible that in the moment everything went a bit too fast for the game as I was approached by the "here have this" nps pretty much 0,1 seconds before.

But hey, the mod works with a little nudge and I am happy

How about a more positive, alternative to your "James Cameron" type ending. After Broken Steel the Player leads brings party of Emissaries from Rivet City, BoS, and Megaton to 101, with the help of Moria and Lucas Simms establish trade, technology, and helping Vault Dwellers get use to the Wasteland. After a while you will find BoS guarding the Entrance and a Caravan at the Lookout. Inside you have scribes and RC scientist working with Vault Scientist and 101 dwellers in Megaton, Tunnel Snakes inMoriarty's Saloon.

@Farzaneh How about the TSC guarding it instead?

Okay, i havent found anything in the compatibility section in the description, but i guess this is not compatible with the Amata follower mod

It is compatible in the sense that your game won't break, but the mod adds its own copy of Amata, so there could be times when you would have two Amatas in the same room or have Amata helping you look for Amata.

Alright... remember LOOT telling everyone about two deleted navmeshes? They are in main worldspace "Wasteland", one has carbon copy new nav, another was merged into adjacent vanilla nav. Author notified of the findings and potential fixes, fixed version sent as well, awaiting response.

@KineticKat You say there is no nudity, but nude body mods disagree. :D

An amazing mod, though my only complaint is I can't access the reactor where my BB gun shooting range is anymore.
