Description:

The Brotherhood of Steel are working hard to get Liberty Prime up and running, and they need you to field test a brainless shell they put together from excess components. It's identical to the true Liberty Prime, down to the booming footsteps, nuclear footballs, and 200 year old anti-communist rhetoric, but they couldn't quite get it together to reproduce the brain, which is where you come in. They've asked you to take the husk out and run it around the wasteland to help them calibrate the gyro stabilizers and identify structural weak points. They get a test pilot, you get a set of forty foot tall, invincible robot armor fast enough to let you run from the Republic of Dave to Rivet City in a couple of minutes, while lugging around the combined looted belongings of Paradise Falls and Evergreen Mills.

This mod is built around the Liberty Prime suit from gorow333's Monster Costumes mod:

Current arsenal:

Liberty Laser
Prime's Gavel
Fist of Liberty
Long Bomb
Demoralizing Rhetoric at the touch of a button

Instructions:

If you've gained access to the Citadel, talk to Scribe Tika in the Citadel Labs. She'll ask you to help out the BOS by field testing a prototype Liberty Prime, and hand you an Exoskeleton Interface Suit used to pilot it.

Alternately, if your Science skill is 75 or above, you can break into the Liberty Beta prototype standing just south of the Citadel. There will be an EIS and Field Diagnostics and Repair Kit in the storage compartment. Once you've broken in, you'll have no problem activating it again (so you won't have to keep popping mentats to keep your Science skill high enough).

You'll need to equip the Exoskeleton Interface Suit in order to mount Liberty Beta. Also, once inside, there are two modes. When walking, you can equip weapons and fire the head laser (trust me, combat is more fun while walking in this thing). When running, your weapon will automatically be put away and unequipped, but you'll be able to run very quickly.

Limb damage sustained while inside of Libert Beta will need to be repaired by exiting and initiating self repair (you'll be unable to get back in if a limb is crippled). Remove the Field Diagnostics and Repair Kit from the storage compartment, and make sure you have a fission battery and at least one piece of scrap metal in your inventory. It will use up to 15 pieces of scrap metal for a full repair, but partial repairs are possible. The FDaRK will be returned to the storage compartment when you start the repair process. You'll also be unable to get back in until the repair is complete, which could make things interesting if you get out in the middle of a battle.

Installation:

First install FOSE (developed using version 1.2 Beta 2):
http://fose.silverlock.org/

and Pipboy Readius:
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/15771/Pipboy%20Readius%20v1.4
(I'm not sure what's up with the FO3Nexus Readius link)

Add the Field Testing Liberty Prime.esp file, and the Meshes and Textures folders to your Fallout 3 Data directory. Add the .esp to your load list (I don't think load order is very important.)

Also, because this mod does things like transfer your entire inventory to a dummy container, it is a good idea to back up your saves before installing (as with any mod).

Uninstallation:

Remove all of your equipment from Liberty Beta's storage compartment, and make sure you are not currently riding inside of it in any of your saves, then delete the .esp and folders from your data directory:

Field Testing Liberty Prime.esp
Textures/IMPS LIberty Prime
Meshes/IMPS LIberty Prime

!!!Any items in storage will be lost, and any items that were in your possession upon entering prime will be lost, if you do not follow the instructions above!!!

Known Issues:

Visual/Audio:

Gimpy shoulders. Sorry, I'll need 3D Studio Max to fix it.

Undersized left forearm.

Missing visor.

Missing back mounted H-Bombs.

Poor footstep syncing with weapons drawn.

Footstep sound continues while airborne.

Poor headlaser alignment in 3rd person view with weapons drawn.

Overpasses and bridges do not impede progress (you can walk through them).

Gameplay:

Mothership Zeta: You can be beamed up if you get too close, which I'm pretty sure would be a bad thing. Steer clear of the wreck while in the suit.

A ludicrous lack of balance against ordinary opponents.

Constantly running out of microfusion cells because you can't walk past a vehicle without blowing it up.

Prime's primary health gets reset when you exit, then enter. Limb conditions are persistent, though, and require repair as they should.

Agro radius behavior doesn't change, so it seems like you can get really close to bad guys before they'll attack (maybe they're just scared.)

While running, you'll be thrown airborne frequently, and you won't always fall right back to earth, especially if you stop running.

If you load a save while wearing the Liberty Prime suit, and that save has you outside of the suit before you've had a chance to put it on for the first time, you won't be able to correctly activate Liberty Prime (you'll just hear a ka-chunk noise, and no menu will pop up). You'll need to exit to desktop, then re-launch fallout, and load the save. To prevent this, quicksave right after you enter Prime the first time (I'm really scratching my head on this one).

It is also possible to jump to places you shouldn't be, like the empty Worldspace version of the Paradise Falls courtyard. If you get stuck, type TCL in the console to get free. Type TCL again to return to normal.

When running, textures will need to load very quickly, which could be a problem with slower systems. If you like this mod but keep having trouble with this, stick to combat mode (walking) or use a lower texture setting.

You will occasionally get stuck inside of world geometry after dismounting Liberty Beta, if you were facing down a steep hill, or standing with your back to a boulder or other bit of debris. If it happens, load a save or type "TCL" without the quotes in the console, move to a clear area, then type "TCL" again to return to normal.

I *think* and I could be totally wrong, but when you enter a cell, all the critters within it get loaded into memory, along with their associated scripts and AI packages. So if you run from one corner of the wasteland to the other, ignoring everything along the way, your computer will get totally bogged down with creatures to keep track of, leading to stability issues. Sorry, but if it is a problem, the only way around it that I can think of is to stop and kill stuff as you go, so, smashy-smashy. You'll be rich in no time.

There seems to be something in the enemy AI that says they only aim for the center of your body, right at normal chest height, which, in a forty foot tall robot means most of the bullets go wizzing between your knees. It sort of kills the challenge of it all, but then there wasn't much to begin with. Missile launchers and grenades do O.K. though.

Legal:

The Liberty Suit is Gorrow333's, and he's got pretty liberal usage terms, so that's up for grabs. Message me before using any code though.
