This is the Drop Base which I built during a play through to be the successor to the Damaged Base from the main story mission that I improved. It is designed to be practical in terms of the Grind as well as very immersive visually. This Drop Base consumes 614 PUs with 4 Cannon Turrets and only one Fridge turned on.

It has everything you need except for the Grow Plots, extra Turret Towers, Solar Panels, and a Large Landing Pad with a Repair Bay. You should place those where the terrain best suits them. As far as Turrets go, I haven't needed to place any extra Turret Towers because I always destroy the Drone Base before I build or place a Base. The 4 Cannon Turrets are enough to take care of whatever critters or occasional Zirax Ground Troops may show up. But if you think you need them, just put some Heavy Turrets around the Perimeter.  To take out any base in this game like a pro, use my Reaper Destroyer SV.

This base is meant to be placed on a flat area, but it can handle Two Blocks worth of variable Ground Level. It has a cross design with 4 buildings surrounding a central Main Tower connected by 4 pressurized corridors. There are armored glass walkways around the second floor and roof level of the Main Tower. There are 4 Landing Pads for small SVs on the roof of the Main Tower.

Make Sure You Get the Elevation Correct for the Portable Constructor Corner Inside the Factory

There is a lowered floor area next to the Constructors where you can place up to 6 Portable Constructors or Water/O2 Condensers that consists of a two missing blocks with stairs in the front right corner of the 1st Floor of the Main Tower. In order to place Portables there you need to place the Drop Base so that there is just a little bit of ground above the Floor Block in the area. You should lower the Drop Base so the Ground Level is 4/5ths of One Block down from the Drop Base 1st Floor level specifically in the corner of the 1st Floor Main Tower where the Portables area is. The last image in the Images Tab shows a close-up of that corner and how it should look from the outside.

In the event that you place the Drop Base too high and the Portables area does not have a layer of ground in it, just point your view at the Drop Base and go to the "`" (tilde key) Console and type "di" and then read the ID number of the Drop Base and type "destroy (the ID number)" and press enter and it will be destroyed. Then type "di" to exit DI mode and then type "sbc" to be able to respawn the Drop Base for free. Exit the Console.

That is all you really need to know to get the most out of this Drop Base. Plan your layout with the priority given to where you will place your Solar Panels. Probably best to use a planet that is very close to the Sun and place them on the equator even if the planet has a tilted orbit. Eleon have yet to make the Solar Panel Power Output function consistently. If you plan it correctly, you can have a nice large landing pad right in front of the Patio Exit.
