About this mod

Removes player buffs from Scadutree Blessings and rebalances enemy stats to account for this.

Description

This is a simple mod for Elden Ring that removes the Scadutree Blessing mechanics from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. More specifically:

- Player buffs received from using Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes are nullified. This applies retroactively, so even if you applied the buffs before, they will be nullified as long as the mod is active.

- Enemy stats across the DLC are rebalanced to account for the removed player buffs. In general, they have been adjusted to be effectively similar to how they would be if fighting them at an "appropriate" Scadutree Blessing level.

This means you can play through the whole DLC without obtaining or using a single one of these items, and the experience will remain balanced. If you're familiar with my other mod, Boss Arena, this rebalancing is exactly the same as used in that mod by default.

Note that this mod is only compatible with version 1.16 of Elden Ring.

Installation

- INSTALL OPTION A: Using ME3 (easier)

1. Download and install the latest ME3 installer executable (https://github.com/garyttierney/me3/releases). Version 0.6.0 is the minimum required for the mod to work properly.

If your antivirus blocks the file, add an exception for it. ME3 is completely safe, but as of writing this document it's a very new tool, so it still causes a lot of false positives with overzealous antivirus software.

2. Extract the mod's .zip file (right click > Extract All), and open the resulting folder.

3. Make sure Steam is running in the background with a legitimate copy of the game owned there, and simply double click the "Launch mod with ME3" .me3 file to launch the game with the mod installed.

- INSTALL OPTION B: Using Mod Engine 2 (slightly more complex, legacy, use if you have issues with ME3)

1. Download Mod Engine 2.1 (https://github.com/soulsmods/ModEngine2/releases) and extract the downloaded .zip file (right click > Extract All).

Note that Mod Engine auto-detects your Elden Ring install location (as long as it's a legitimate Steam copy), so you don't need to put it in the game installation folder, but avoid locations managed by OneDrive such as Desktop.

2. Once you have Mod Engine 2 set up, extract the mod's .zip file, open the resulting folder, and then copy the regulation.bin that's inside the "mod" folder (NOT the folder itself) to inside Mod Engine 2's own "mod" folder. If you end up with a "mod" folder inside another "mod" folder, you've done it wrong.

3. Make sure Steam is running in the background with a legitimate copy of the game owned there, and then click the "launchmod_eldenring.bat" file to launch the game with the mod.

If nothing happens, you may have a non-standard installation of Elden Ring, file permission issues with the game install folder or eldenring.exe, antivirus software blocking Mod Engine, or other unknown issues. I recommend following this troubleshooting document to try and solve the problem: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DTnsVJrbhzsFYTouix2iAH_-RQ491rKxJO-d-oGEXPE/edit?tab=t.0

Uninstallation

If you used ME3 or Mod Engine 2 as suggested, you don't need to do anything special. Simply launch the game directly through Steam to play the normal game.

Combining with other mods

Follow this guide in order to merge the regulation.bin of this mod with others: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NNBZcPXwPhwqaEEBmNk0FqlOi_JO7m2CSAaxggzMVlc/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.li6o5nxbce0p

A CSV file is also provided if you prefer using that. The instructions for using CSV files are also in the linked tutorial.
