About this mod
Rebalances holy damage by decreasing resistances for several bosses and enemies in both the base game and DLC
- Permissions and credits
- Changelogs
Of the four types of elemental damage in Elden Ring, magic, fire, lightning, and holy, the latter consistently draws the shortest straw. In almost every encounter, all of its compatriots either pull ahead or break roughly even in terms of damage, and are rarely challenged by anything more than a select few enemies. Holy damage, in comparison, is mostly used as a tool for absolutely flattening specific types of enemies (read: skeletons and nothing else), while barely tickling most others– in particular, bosses and enemies in endgame areas like Elphael, Leyndell, or Farum Azula, although this nigh-global holy resistance pops up almost throughout the entire game, including in places where it absolutely should not be. Did you know that Royal Revenants, which are hurt by healing spells, have 60% holy damage resistance, and Fortissax, a dragon cursed with death - the one thing that is vulnerable to holy damage - has a resistance of EIGHTY PERCENT?
This balancing issue, thankfully, has been (mostly) addressed in the Shadow of The Erdtree DLC. Several bosses and enemies are neutral, occasionally even vulnerable, to holy damage, while resistances to the element have been (mostly) restricted to thematically appropriate foes. However, the holy element still feels lacking throughout most of the experience, still falling behind the other elements in terms of usefulness. That, and the balance of the base game hasn’t changed whatsoever. So, something needs to change. But what?
What This Mod Does
This mod aims to bring holy damage up to par with its contemporaries while still maintaining its characteristic flair. It reduces the holy defenses of a lot of bosses and enemies, particularly those which are in opposition to the Erdtree, such as rotten, crucible, or ghostly enemies, while keeping (or only slightly lowering) the holy reduction of things closely aligned with the golden order. In this manner, holy damage still excels at nuking specific enemies while remaining relatively weak against holier ones, although usually not to the degree that it once was. Other elements don’t get throttled against this many enemies. Why should Holy damage?
The Specifics
Below, you’ll find a list of what enemies have had their resistances reduced, and by how much. All numbers are percentage of holy damage resisted. For the sake of space, enemies that haven’t had their resistances changed aren’t listed, with the exception of remembrance bosses.
