About this mod

Dragon Dogma does not allow you to Edit your player character and main pawn more than once in your first play-through. On second playthough, you'll be able to buy an item (called Secret of Metamorphosis) which allow you unlimited modifications. This tutorial mod will show you to add this item to your inventory via save game editor.

Dragon Dogma does not allow you to Edit your player character and main pawn more than once in your first play-through. You get access to an item called Art of Metamorphosis which cost 5000RC. The store has one in inventory and it doesn't re-stock it once you buy it. On second playthough, you'll be able to buy the Secret of Metamorphosis which allow you unlimited modifications.

I'm the type that will tweak his character throughout a playthrough and I don't like being limited in this manner, so I came up with this work-around and thought I'd share it.

Download DDASaveTool ( http://www.tzarsectus.com/tools/DDsavetool.rar - if this link is dead, a copy will be available in Download section)

  • Close Dragon's Dogma
  • Find your DDDA save file at: c:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Steam\userdata\YOURsteamUSERid\367500\remote\DDDA.sav
  • Backup your save file.
  • Unpack DDsavetool.rar somewhere.
  • Drag DDDA.sav over DDsavetool.exe. It will create DDDA.sav.xml
  • Open DDDA.sav.xml in your favorite text editor. I would recommend notepad++ (MS notepad sucks!!)
  • Think of item you already have in your inventory. Look up it's number on this list (in case the link dies, a txt copy of it is available in download). I like to use Gransys Herb as I always have it in my inventory. It's code is 1463.
  • In the xml file, search for: "data.mItemNo" value="CODEofITEMyouCHOOSE" ex. "data.mItemNo" value="1463"
  • Replace thhe line with "data.mItemNo" value="1635" (that's the code for the Secret of Metamorphosis). Save.  Take note of the item replaced item number as you will be needing it later.
  • Delete old DDDA.sav. Drag and drop the edited DDDA.sav.xml over DDsavetool.exe. It will probably make a DDDA.sav in the same directory as the save tool. Move it to  c:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Steam\userdata\YOURsteamUSERid\367500\remote.
  • Start Dragon's Dogma. Load. In your inventory under other items (the diamond icon), you should be able to see the Secret of Metamorphosis. If you had 11 Gransys herbs, there will be 11 Secret of Metamorphosis instead. Don't worry about this, it's temporary. Try saving the game and exit to main menu. You should have a character edit option available in the main menu (a couple of entries under load). If it's still not there, try reloading the game and try giving the SoM to your pawn. Try depositing it in your storage. The game won't let you give it but you should here the sound of something leaving your inventory and then coming back. Ig that doesn't work, you can try leaving an area (for example the camp or Gran Soren) and coming back - keep an eye out for the connecting to the server notification. Save and exit to menu and check again. Once you see the character edit option in the menu, make a back of current save and try editing your character more than once. If it the chacter edit option doesn't go away after first edit, all is well.
  • Close Dragon's Dogma. Make a backup of modded DDDA.sav. Use DDsavetool to unpack it and edit the unpacked xml. Do a search for "data.mItemNo" value="1635" and replace the 1635 with whatever was there before (1463 for the gransys herb). Use DDsavetool to repack xml and replace the modded sav with the one you just edited. This will get rid of the SoM from your inventory. You've already tricked Capcom into unlocking the character edits, you don't need it anymore. You'll just get back whatever item you lost when you did the first edit.
