BIG THANK YOU TO MX-T AND AFROELF5 FOR HELPING ME FINISH!

WEIRD UPDATE ALERT!

  • So earlier today I read a comment mentioning that Warriors cannot use Warrior abilities while using a non-Warrior weapon. This is true. However, through a little bit of digging I found an easy way to fix this. Sort of. Basically I can trick the game into thinking that something like a Mage Staff is actually a Greataxe. Doing so allows the Warrior to wield a Mage Staff but still use Warrior abilities in the Two Handed tree. The downside is that it makes the Mage Staff function exactly like a Greataxe - you won't shoot magic balls out of your staff anymore but will instead swing it around like a Greataxe. This looks badass, but isn't that much of a gameplay changer. Still, it's handy if you want your character to be a Monk or something. I've uploaded a test .daimod and a video showcasing how badass Iron Bull looks swinging around a Mage Staff.
  • Unfortunately this 'fix' will apply itself to every Mage Staff. This means that if your Solas is using a Mage Staff, and you download the test mod, he will be forced into melee combat. THIS ADDITIONAL MOD IS OPTIONAL AND IS MEANT FOR HAVING FUN!

Update Log:
8/27: Added normal shields, courtesy of afroelf5.
8/27: Added crafted weapons and crafted shields, courtesy of Mx-T (ZS).
8/27: So I've allowed Two Handed Warrior abilities to be used while wielding a Mage Staff...
8/26: Patch versions are confusing the hell out of me. Basically, this mod will work best on a fully updated game.
8/26: Added remaining Rogue weapons.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Bows will not be added because they are bugged on non-Rogue characters. We can't fix that.
  • Abilities that require a specific weapon will only work with that weapon. For example, a Warrior cannot use a Two Handed ability with a staff. There is a potential fix, as noted in the "Weird Update" above, but it is imperfect.
  • Dual-wielding anything but two daggers will result in a graphical bug that is impossible to fix. E.g. equipping a dagger and shield or dagger and sword won't work.
  • This mod is in its early alpha stages. I expect there to be bugs or missing items. Please help me fix these by reporting them directly to me.
  • Removing class restrictions from items is a tedious process, which requires cross-referencing and changing HEX values one by one. Updates will be slow, but they will be coming. I am currently looking for someone who is willing to help me out with this. PM me. I can teach you all you need to know. :)

I HAVE TESTED THIS MOD THOROUGHLY ON MY OWN SYSTEM, BUT I CANNOT AND WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IF THIS MOD HAPPENS TO BREAK YOUR GAME. PLAY MULTIPLAYER AT YOUR OWN RISK! I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS MOD WILL INTERACT WITH ONLINE PLAY.

DESCRIPTION:

This mod will remove the class restrictions from most weapons, allowing Warriors to use Mage Staves, Mages to use Rogue daggers, Rogues to use Warrior greataxes and so on and so forth. It will not remove restrictions on character-only weapons (like Bianca) and it will disallow the use of weapon-specific abilities (like the Two Handed tree) when wielding the wrong weapon.

INSTALLATION:

Extract the compressed file anywhere on your computer. Copy both no_weapon_restrictions.daimod and no_weapon_restrictions_2.daimod into your Mods folder. Run Mod Manager V1.0.0.58, ensure the mods are checked, and press Merge.

PLANNED UPDATES:

  • Compile everything into a single .daimod file. Hey, it's harder than it sounds!
  • Look into safe ways to change stats on items, to allow the implementation of things like WIllpower swords.
  • Look into safe ways to allow weapon-specific abilities to be used with different weapons (e.g. Two Handed Warrior abilities working with a staff). The current fix is imperfect.
