Permissions and credits


First of all I’d like to clarify a few things:

1- I’m far from being an expert in modding and my Photoshop knowledge is pretty basic.
2- I’m only able to do this because of the ability, persistence and hard work of the ones that made the modding tool possible.
3- This is my first mod post so if I'm doing something wrong or you have any suggestions please let me know.
4- Please forgive any orthographic mistake, english is not my native language :P
 
 
The MOD
This mod is a recolor of the Bog Unicorn mount.

The main one (all black) I did it for myself and was my only objective.


There are 3 others that I made for testing:

- Black with Red hair and red eyes
- White with White hair and Blue eyes
- Purple with Red hair and Black eyes




So I just wanted to share this 4 options and leave the door open for some requests. In the meantime I’ll be trying other combinations as I learn more and later upload them.

UPDATE 1 
Added:
- A "multicolor" (based on the map XD) version
- A "dark chrome" version
- A "uv" version
- A "fire" version





Update 2
Added:
- A maroon with red hair and red eyes version
- A black with maroon hair and red eyes version
- A "purple chrome" verison
- A pink with shiny hair version
- A black with brown hair and red eyes version







When I made those 4 first versions I hadn’t identified all the parts in the texture so I’m leaving a kind of map to show all the parts that I actually 
can change the color:





INSTALLATION

Just pick one (only one) option and put it into you mods folder, then is the same as the other mods, load the Mod Manager (0.52) and merge.

Note: These mods are working with the latest patch release to date but I don’t have the Jaws of Haakon DLC so I can’t confirm if it works with it.

 

OPTIONAL
There is a all-black saddle texture as an optional file. 


EXTRA

For people who want to try mod this texture I’m leaving the Photoshop file with the original texture all mapped for other modders that maybe want to play with it and come up with their own recolor.

To them I explain that the way that I got it all working is,once I recolor the .dds in Photoshop I save it as .dds thanks to the nvidia 
plugin and I save with the options: “DXT5 ARGB  8 bpp | interpolated alpha” and “No MIP maps”. Then I open that .dds in GIMP and export it as .dds with the options “BC3 / DXT5” and “No mipmaps”.

If you don’t do the GIMP step you’ll get an error loading the game. I know this wouldn’t be necessary if I did it all in GIMP but I know even less of GIMP than Photoshop, I know nothing will be the correct statement lol.

Next step is to import the texture in the Modding Tool, you will find the original texture under

/da3/factions/nature/biotic/creatures/c_hrs_unicorn/textures

There are 4 files:
c_hrs_unicorn_d  <this is the one you need to replace with the one you make
c_hrs_unicorn_n
c_hrs_unicorn_s   <if you want a normal brightness to all this one needs to be all green
c_hrs_unicorn_t   <this one needs to be all black or it will give a reddish-clay color


Note:
Playing with the "c_hrs_unicorn_s" (specular map) will change the brightness and reflection, here is a short explanation:
- The Red channel in the image controls the brightness of the material (i.e. 255 Red will make the texture very “shiny”).
- The Blue channel controls Team Colour/Player Colour. (?)
- Green channel controls how reflective a surface is (i.e. mirrors, windows, etc.).

So... Purple = Shiny and has teamcolours; Yellow = Shiny and Reflective; Cyan = Reflective and has teamcolours.

You can play adding different option to different parts like, body, teeth, hair, the sword...
