Black scleras for Specific Races and Characters
This mod makes various characters of your choice have black scleras/eye whites. It will not affect everybody, hence the separate files, you can pick and choose who is affected. It works with most eye retexture mods, but not all of them - it depends on what the person making the mod did to the alpha channel on the tint map of the eye, which is what determines how vivid the iris colours are and whether the sclera overlays are enabled or not.

Edits to the tint map alone will not disable the sclera, it will only disable the sclera if the person who made the eye retexture filled the entire alpha channel for the tint map with black. For this mod to work with an eye texture, the eye retexture must have white on the sclera areas of the alpha channel.

More detail about how the different mods work below...

Race Versions
The race versions of this mod (elf male, elf female, qunari male, qunari female, human male, human female, dwarf male, and dwarf female) will affect nearly every generic and minor named npc that shares the same race and gender combo. This includes the inquisitor, provided they are of the same gender and race. This version does not affect major npcs like your companions, advisors, or anybody who has an individual file for themself on this mod page. Also won't affect Alistair either.

More minor npcs and major npcs with character customization (Hawke!) might be affected by the race versions, if they have the same race and gender combo i.e HM scleras may possibly affect a HM Hawke, and HF Scleras a HF Hawke.  Bull's chargers (not Bull himself) may also be affected by the race versions.

Npc and Companion Versions (all the rest):
These versions will only affect the character specified in the mod name. The most major npcs have heads that are unique to them, which is where their eye settings are stored, and thus they require their own mod to get the demon eyes. Some of the npc & companion mods also modify their iris colour, this will be stated in the file name if so.
♥ Tip: find files easier by copying the file name (underlined at the start of each of the "options" bullet points), and then pressing ctrl

+ f whilst on the files tab and pasting the file name into the search bar. It will highlight the files with that name.

For easier location, frosty mods are in the main files, and daimods are in the optional files.
Race options:
  • ElfMaleBlackSclera for EM (no affect on Solas)
  • FemaleElfBlackSclera for EF (no affect on Sera)

  • QunariFemaleBlackSclera for QF
  • Dwarf Female Black Sclera for DF (may affect Bianca)
  • Dwarf Male Black Sclera (no affect on Varric)
  • Human Female Black Sclera (may affect HF Hawke)
  • Human Male Black Sclera (may affect HM Hawke)

Companion options:
  • ColeBlackSclera for Cole
  • BullJustBlackSclera for Bull
  • BullBlackScleraAndLightBlueEyes, also for Bull
  • SolasJustBlackSclera for Solas
  • SeraBlackScleraPinkIrises for Sera
  • SeraJustBlackSclera, also for Sera

Villain options:
  • Samson Black Sclera and Red Irises for Samson
  • CorypheusBlackScleraRedIrises, also for Corypheus
  • Corypheus DA2 Eyes Black Cloud, gives Corypheus 1 red sclera,
and 1 white sclera with black pooling in the middle. also gives
him heterochromia of the irises, 1 red iris and 1 white one.

  • Calpernia Black Sclera

Morrigan and Family:
  • Morrigan Black Sclera
  • Flemeth Black Sclera
  • Kieran Black Scleras Yellow Irises
Kieran Black Scleras Yellow Irises Elf-blooded compatible - for use with Kittentails visibly elf-blooded Kieran mod.
use that version instead of the regular version if you use Kittens mod as otherwise the eyes will look misshapen.
be sure to load my mod AFTER (below) kittens in the load order so it can override the eye shader edits. will also
override any eye colour edits from Kitten's mod.

Special advisor options:
  • BlackScleraLelianaInHushedWhispers for Leliana, will only affect the undead-looking Leliana during the quest "In Hushed Whispers." Regular Leliana will not be affected. You have to side with the mages to get this quest and see this version of Leliana.

Conflicts
The NPC/companion sclera mods will conflict with any eye colour mods and lash colour mods for the same character - so, for example, you couldn't have an eye colour mod for Solas installed at the same time as my black sclera mod for him.

Leliana is the one exception to this -- other authors eye colour mods generally only affect regular Leliana, not zombie Leliana, which is the one I edited. So, you *can*  load  most eye colour mods with my sclera for her, it won't conflict, but it won't change her iris colour during that quest either, because of the aforementioned reason. It's nothing to do with my mod. The only lash colour mod I know of for Leliana though does edit her zombie face too so will conflict -- anything that says it edits mt_cbt_leli_customshader_mesh will have a conflict with her mod.

In terms of races, just because an npc is the same race as your inquisitor doesn't mean you can't install both the race mod and the sclera mod for that specific character. Everything in this mod pack should technically be compatible with one another, except for different versions of the mod for the same character.

Dlc compatibility
Not tested.

Credits

wendera for this iris colour tutorial, and also the inspiration and permission to give Kieran yellow irises. if you would prefer Kieran with yellow irises and no demon scleras, you should consider checking out their daimod here, or iamajellybean's fbmod version here
Kamael for the outfit Solas is wearing in his preview
booty for testing the HM scleras, and providing the screenshots for them (all human male screens were taken by them, with their own inquisitor Daario)
padme for letting me use the screenshots I took of their inquisitor despair to showcase the human female black sclera
Gilsa for dwarf female carta cut outfit that I edited per their TOU (not part of this mod but visible in DF preview)

Notes and issues
1) I've discovered the race and gender ones do not affect every single generic npc ever because I saw some random extras in skyhold with regular eyes, but, it does affect a good handful of the generic npcs. I personally find this more preferable.

2) You may notice that from further distances, eyes look like this (notice the jagged edges around the iris):

THIS IS NOT DUE TO MY MOD. This happens even in an unmodded game due to the eye textures mip maps, however, since my scleras add a darker background, it means that those issues with the mip maps might be more noticeable because the darker background makes the edges stand out more.

Textures appear fine up close, I recommend though if you wish to take screenshots of characters with scleras from further away, you download cinematic tools and crank your resolution to 2 with the tools, this will lessen the jagged effect but I do not recommend it for gameplay, just screenshotting.

3) When using the race/gender versions of the mod, at the black emporium it will show up in the mirror of transformation and everything, but, if you try to open the menu there, your game can freeze. If you visit the BE with the race ones, avoid opening the menu. Instead, use the specific shortcuts to open what you want without accessing the menu. i.e I for inventory, M for map.

The NPC and companion variants of this mod do not have this issue, to my knowledge.

4) Won't show in prerecorded cutscenes, the same as all other mods - those are videos, not real cutscenes, thus, mods can't show up in them.
